Cine Líbero Luxardo, in Belém, hosts the 10th Amazon Film Showcase, which will take place independently and for free in four distinct locations in the city until November 21. With a rich and extensive cultural program open to the public, the showcase will be set against the backdrop of the world's largest climate action event, COP30.

In the year that the project celebrates its 20th anniversary, Brazilian and international documentaries, fictions, and animations will be screened, in short, medium, and feature films about climate urgencies, environmental crises, ancient cultural heritages, and the challenges faced by indigenous peoples of the Amazon and the world, in defense of nature and the planet.

The general coordinator of the showcase, Eduardo Souza, speaks about the importance of the initiative. "At COP30, we want to propose to the world exchanges and ancestral solutions to problems affecting various traditional communities, especially indigenous peoples, guardians of the forest and nature, and thus truly contribute to the global dialogue in favor of the environment and the people who protect it, which is why cinema is important as a climate action," highlights the producer.

"Secrets of Putumayo", by Aurélio Michiles, will also be screened

Films that discuss and expose the scars of the contemporary world will be screened, while simultaneously revisiting ancestral paths for its balance, based on ancient technologies from those who live and know the ecosystems of the planet's greatest biodiversities.

The sessions will take place at Cine Líbero Luxardo, the Institute of Arts Sciences (ICA-UFPA), the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS-PA), and Cine Sesc Ver-o-Peso, and will be followed by debates and panels with the presence of indigenous leaders and the black movement, journalists, activists, lawyers, researchers, and filmmakers, to discuss and propose climate actions through cinema and initiatives already developed for many generations by the involved communities.

On Wednesday (19), at 10 am, the program includes the participation of Amazonian filmmaker Aurélio Michiles, with the surprising "Secrets of Putumayo", about Roger Casement's denunciations regarding the enslavement of indigenous people in the Peruvian Amazon in the early 20th century, followed by a debate on transnational activism and human rights.

Carimbó, by Eduardo Souza, talks about one of our greatest musical expressions

The next day, Thursday (20), at 10 am, the documentary "Yanuni", produced by Leonardo Di Caprio and awarded "Best Documentary" at the 49th São Paulo International Film Showcase in 2025, will be screened. The film portrays Juma Xipaia, an indigenous Amazonian leader who will be present at the screening.

The special edition of 2025, at COP30, promises to be the most active and engaged of all editions, as in addition to the illustrious guests, it features award-winning films with international success that raise essential questions for global environmental balance from the largest tropical forest on the planet.

The 10th Amazon Film Showcase is organized by the Amazon Brazil Cultural Institute and the production company Mekaron Filmes, in partnership with the Climate Observatory, the National Museum of Indigenous Peoples, the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai), MIS-PA, Sesc Ver-o-Peso, Cine Líbero Luxardo, the Cultural Foundation of Pará, Sommos Amazônia, the Roots of Tradition Association, and the AnimArte Festival.
