The Metropolitan Emergency Hospital (HMUE), in Ananindeua, held a special program on November 17 and 18 in honor of Blue November, a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness and preventing prostate cancer.

The initiative included a discussion circle for employees, promoted by the Human Resources (HR) department, aimed at strengthening knowledge about the disease and encouraging continuous health care habits among men. The meeting was led by the physician and technical director of HMUE, Augusto César.

During the activity, the specialist shared essential information about prostate cancer, addressing risk factors, symptoms, diagnostic methods, available treatments, and prevention strategies. He also explained how lifestyle, family history, and age influence the development of the disease, reinforcing the importance of regular evaluation.

“Those who have a family history of prostate cancer have a 50% higher risk of developing the tumor. Therefore, it is essential to maintain annual consultations, adopt a healthy diet with fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and engage in regular physical activity,” emphasized Augusto César.

The national scenario reinforces this concern. The National Cancer Institute (Inca) estimates that in 2025, there will be 71,730 new cases of prostate cancer in Brazil. According to the agency, after non-skin cancers, this type of cancer is the most frequent and impactful among the male population.

Among the participants, employee Yago Santos highlighted the relevance of the initiative. “I found it very interesting to participate in the discussion circle because many pieces of information we don't even know in our daily lives. This action opened our eyes to the importance of prevention and self-care. Sometimes, due to lack of information or even embarrassment, many men fail to seek help,” he stated.
