Uepa Planetarium promotes Astronomy experience at the Pará–Municipal Pavilion
Free programming created for COP30 is available to the public with sessions from 2 PM to 8 PM, until next Friday (21)
The Pará Science and Planetarium Center (CCPPA), linked to the State University of Pará (Uepa), in Belém, is participating until next Friday (21), from 2 PM to 8 PM, in the Pará–Municipal Pavilion, a program created for COP30. The institution is present with the Mobile Planetarium, an itinerant unit that offers immersive Astronomy sessions in a dome that simulates the Universe. The Pará–Municipal Pavilion is located at the Centenary Convention Center, at Avenida Augusto Montenegro, No. 1802. Admission is free.
On this Tuesday (18), the sessions of the Mobile Planetarium occur every 15 minutes, attracting a large audience for the screening of the video “AsterBot in the Solar System,” in which a little robot named AsterBot presents the main celestial bodies of the Solar System, highlighting the characteristics of the Sun, the planets, and other celestial bodies.
According to the director of CCPPA, José Roberto Silva, participation in the event is “an excellent opportunity for the Pará Science and Planetarium Center to disseminate scientific knowledge, especially in Astronomy, through the Mobile Planetarium.” The manager highlighted that CCPPA is inaugurating another Mobile Planetarium in the programming at the Pará–Municipal Pavilion. “This is a historic moment, as we are starting the activities of the new Mobile Planetarium, named ‘Niara,’ at an event of global importance, which is COP30,” he informed.
Visibility - For the volunteer intern of CCPPA, Mayara Fernandes, participating in a unique event like COP30 is “very rewarding, as in addition to assisting the Planetarium, I am gaining experience in participating in events. This one, in particular, is important for attracting the public and giving visibility to various actions, including the activities of the Planetarium, which we usually detail to visitors of the Pará Pavilion.”
Eliete Salviano, one of the visitors who attended the session at the Mobile Planetarium on Tuesday afternoon (18), described the moment as “wonderful. I had never been in a planetarium before, and it was a rewarding experience, so that we can learn more about our planet and the others that exist.”
Josiane Santos, 48 years old, brought her daughter and niece to the session and said she was enchanted. “I really enjoyed participating in this Planetarium activity. It is a very beautiful initiative that not only helps children understand more about the Solar System but also allows them to experience something different at the Municipal Pavilion. It is a way to encourage us to visit the Planetarium at another time to learn more about this wonderful place that sparks curiosity in us and in the children.”
Until November 22 (Saturday), the Pará Science and Planetarium Center will offer activities open to the public from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM and from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The program includes video screenings, dome sessions, visits to the Science Center, and exhibitions. After the 22nd, CCPPA will resume its public visits on two days: Wednesdays from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM and Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
