The Oriximiná Regional Hospital Menino Jesus (HRMJ) provided a total of 1,036 social services to patients hospitalized in the unit from January to November 2025. The main objective of the hospital social service is to ensure the rights of health system users, offering social, emotional, and informational support so that they and their families can face the challenges of treatment with more security.

One of the patients served was José Luiz Gonzaga Cordeiro dos Santos, 72 years old, a resident of Oriximiná. “The social worker interviewed me, asked what I thought of the hospital. I think it’s very good; we are receiving special care. I came to have a mole removed, and she (the assistant) was very clarifying regarding my surgical process,” reported José Luiz.

The social workers act as mediators between patients, families, and the institution, contributing to the search for social benefits, guidance on treatment, and psychosocial support. They also integrate the multidisciplinary team, collaborating for more humane and comprehensive care.

Patient José Luiz: “I think it’s very good; we are receiving special care,” he said.

For nurse Yasmim Franco, coordinator of the multidisciplinary team, the social service plays an essential role in the hospital. “The social assistance service within the Menino Jesus Hospital is of vital importance, always prioritizing humane care. Our patients are assisted from admission to hospital discharge,” she emphasized.

During the process, the social worker also acts as a link between the patient and the institution.
“Our main objective as social service is to ensure that there is no violation of these patients' rights and to guarantee that they receive humane care, in accordance with our institutional values,” Yasmim reinforced.

Another important responsibility is the contact with the municipalities of the patients' origin.
“Social workers contact the municipalities in the health assistance network so that the patient is attended to in their entirety, from primary care — where they receive their referral — to their arrival at the hospital,” she concluded.
