Procon Pará promotes a campaign for guidance and negotiation of bank debts

The action continues until November 28 with the aim of providing guidance on negotiating debts such as credit cards, overdrafts, and payroll loans

The Negotiation and Financial Guidance Campaign began this Monday, the 24th, in Belém and Ananindeua, promoted by the State Secretariat of Justice (Seju), through the Directorate of Protection and Defense of the Consumer of Pará (Procon Pará). The aim of the action is to guide consumers who wish to renegotiate debts with banks and financial institutions.

The campaign is part of a national initiative organized by the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), in collaboration with the Central Bank, the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), and the Brazilian Association of Procons (Proconsbrasil), which seeks to provide conditions for the renegotiation of overdue bank debts.

Debts on credit cards, overdrafts, payroll loans, or other forms of credit with financial institutions can be negotiated, provided they are overdue accounts, not prescribed, and do not have assets given as collateral, such as vehicle and property financing.

During this period, Procon will only attend to essential demands (such as water and energy) and requests from the campaign. “Consumers can negotiate directly with the financial institution through its official channel or through the portal consumidor.gov.br, if the user has a silver or gold account. If they have difficulty negotiating through these means, they can seek support at our units,” explains Gareza Moraes, director of Procon Pará.

This is what retiree Jacirema Carvalho did, who sought help to negotiate a bank debt. “I had already attended another Procon action and liked the guidance they provided, so I came back here to get better informed and see if I can get a discount on my bill.”

Gareza Moraes emphasizes that the campaign period offers special conditions to facilitate the negotiation of pending issues, but the client can seek Procon at any time for support in dealings with companies and suppliers. “Consumers need to prove identity and address and present the documents related to the debt, such as bills and bank statements,” she states.

The campaign continues until November 28

Consumers wishing to participate should bring personal identification documents, proof of address, and documents related to the debt such as bills, statements, notifications, service protocol, etc., to the following Procon units:
