Hospital da Mulher do Pará strengthens the fight against violence against women in an action at the Belém Bus Terminal
The goal is to give visibility to the services provided by the protection network for women victims of violence
As part of the social responsibility strategies, the Hospital da Mulher do Pará (HMPA) held an educational action at the Belém Bus Terminal, in the São Brás neighborhood, on this Tuesday (25), when the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is remembered. The initiative provided guidance with the distribution of informational material for terminal users.
The general director of HMPA, Nelma Machado, emphasized that external actions are some of the ways to expand the reach of the message, highlighting the importance of prevention, reporting, and the services of the protection network for victims.
“Bringing this issue to public spaces is a way to bring information closer to people and break the silence that still surrounds violence against women. Our commitment is to care, guide, and show that no woman is alone. Awareness is daily, and we can all contribute to a safer and more respectful society,” she stated.
During the activity, several people passing through the location shared their perceptions on the topic. Among them was workshop technician Vanelma Santos, 28, a resident of the municipality of Jacundá, who advocates for more work focused on this issue. “It is important to remember, not just on the special day, but always. It is worth investing in awareness in schools, anywhere, because talking about it is fundamental,” she said. A mother of a nine-year-old boy, she mentioned that she already talks to her son about respecting women. “That’s the foundation, right? We guide from childhood,” she added.
Terminal worker Adriana Duarte also took the opportunity to leave a direct message to women. “Women, seek help, report, there is a protection network. Because if your relationship is not right, get out, but don’t go getting beaten,” she warned.
For Lucilene Meireles, 35, a manicurist and resident of Baião, initiatives like this help those who suffer in silence. “Many women do not report when they go through situations of violence because they cannot speak. And actions like this awaken courage,” she stated.
Snack bar attendant Gustavo Maia, 29, emphasized that many women remain in abusive relationships. “There are those who are trapped in relationships due to emotional dependence, sometimes due to lack of resources, in short, various circumstances. All of this leads women to submit to a situation of violence. Campaigns like this draw attention to these situations,” he commented.
He also shared his family reference. “I came from a single mother who raised three children. I grew up seeing a warrior woman. Respect must prevail within society. Women have the right to conquer their space, study, and grow. It is essential that men understand and respect this,” he concluded.
The action reinforced that confronting violence against women is collective and ongoing, and that circulating information in public spaces is another step to strengthen the protection and autonomy of women.
