Hemopa registers 674 donations in a single day on National Blood Donor Day
The action mobilized the entire state blood network and reinforced the solidarity of the population of Pará with cultural activities, tributes, and a scavenger hunt among institutions
With a broad program aimed at valuing solidarity, the Pará Center for Hemotherapy and Hematology Foundation (Hemopa) celebrated, this Tuesday (25), the National Day of the Voluntary Blood Donor with an impressive record of 674 donations in a single day — a number that can represent up to 2,696 transfusions. The initiative reinforces the role of the population and partner institutions in maintaining the stocks of the state blood network.
The Hemopa headquarters in Belém was the stage for tributes to donors, recognition of partner institutions, and the awarding of prizes from the Solidarity Blood Donation Scavenger Hunt, which involved hospitals from the state network and public administration bodies, stimulating collective engagement for the cause.
Mobilization throughout the state
In addition to the capital, Hemopa units in the interior also participated in the celebrations. In Altamira, the program featured singer Jessica Lopes and support from the Fire Department. In Santarém, the highlight was the participation of the Cursilho da Cristandade Movement, expanding the community reach of the actions.
The president of the Blood Collection Commission of the Gaspar Vianna Clinical Hospital, Aline Rodrigues, emphasized the importance of donors for the functioning of the health system. "Without them, we could not guarantee procedures such as heart surgeries and other essential care. Being among the three institutions with the best results is the recognition of a daily effort to ensure the supply of Hemopa's stock."
Results of the solidarity scavenger hunt
In the category of hospitals in the state network, the top three were:
- Gaspar Vianna Clinical Hospital (FHCGV)
- Abelardo Santos Regional Hospital (HRAS)
- Jean Bitar Regional Hospital (HRJB)
- Among the state public administration bodies, the following stood out:
- State Department of Planning and Administration (Seplad)
- State Department of Penitentiary Administration (Seap)
- Institute of Social Security and Protection Management of the State of Pará (Igepps)
Tributes and recognition speeches
During the ceremony, donors and partners with relevant contributions to the blood network campaigns were honored. The president of Hemopa, Paulo Bezerra, highlighted the symbolic and practical value of the date:
"It is a day not only to give thanks but mainly to reinforce the importance of blood donation and the act of solidarity. We are honoring and raising awareness among the population throughout the state, in addition to recognizing the partner institutions that contributed to a good number of bags collected during this campaign."
The hematologist Dr. Iê Regina Bentes Fernandes, who works at the Abelardo Santos Regional Hospital, Jean Bitar Hospital, and at the Hemopa Foundation itself, emphasized the reach of the blood network:
"Hemopa performs excellent work and extends hematological and hemotherapeutic care throughout our giant state. This work needs to be recognized and cannot be forgotten."
Institutional and societal involvement
The mobilization also included public servants. Taís Santarices from Seap reinforced the human value of the initiative:
"It is an honor to be among the top three again this year, but what really matters is this act of solidarity, empathy, and love that the servers demonstrate every time they are mobilized."
Vanessa Marques, a psychologist from Igepps, highlighted the role of the servers:
"Serving society is also this: doing good without knowing for whom, but with the certainty that we are contributing to save lives."
Donor Emanuelle Martins, who celebrated her birthday by donating blood, was moved by the gesture:
"It is very good to start my birthday with this good deed. Donating blood is helping those in need. It is something gratifying, just gratitude for being able to contribute."
Culture and solidarity on stage
The cultural program was a highlight at the Hemopa headquarters in Belém. Singer Alba Maria, a donor for over 30 years, united art and citizenship. "I think it is very important that we, artists, join this movement of donation and solidarity. We need to demystify the fear that many people still have, because donating is a simple and safe act."
