Jean Bitar Hospital (HJB), in Belém, reached the significant mark of 295 blood collections during the 8th Solidarity Blood Donation Gincana, promoted by the Pará Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation (Hemopa), in partnership with various institutions, in celebration of National Blood Donor Day, celebrated on Tuesday (25). The blood donations made by the hospital benefited 1,180 patients hospitalized in the state hospital network.

The management of the hospital unit achieved third place among the hospital units with the highest number of participating donors in the action. The certification took place during a ceremony at the Hemopa headquarters in Belém.

With the theme “At COP 30, Sustain Life. Donate Blood!”, the gincana was held from October 7 to November 7, covering the Hemopa headquarters and collection points at Castanheira and Metrópole Shopping Centers. The objective of the gincana was to reinforce blood stocks to ensure the transfusion demand of the Pará hospital network, especially in the period leading up to the international climate event that took place in the state.

To record the score, HJB had a unique code, allowing the counting of donations from users' companions, collaborators, family members, and friends mobilized for the action.

The solidarity action was organized by the Humanization Working Group (GTH) and the Transfusion Agency (AT) of HJB. The solidarity action mobilized 295 donors. The collaborator who brought in the most participants was the Occupational Safety technician, Claudirene Pinto, who celebrated the result. “I mobilized friends and family, and this contributed to us achieving third place and helping to save lives, which was our main goal. Upon receiving this recognition, I only thought of my daughter, who for the first time contributed to saving lives through blood donation,” she reported.

The president of the Hemopa Foundation, Paulo Bezerra, highlighted the importance of the mobilization. “Jean Bitar Hospital was one of the great highlights of this edition. This further strengthens our partnership and the commitment to encourage blood donation among the institutions of the state,” he stated.

The executive director of HJB, Giovani Merenda, reinforced the pride of the unit with the result and thanked the collective effort:

“I deeply thank all our collaborators, family members who mobilized in yet another campaign. We end the year with another successful partnership with Hemopa, reinforcing our commitment to life. In addition to supplying the hospital network, these bags will also directly contribute to the procedures performed at HJB, including our bariatric surgeries, which depend on safe stocks to occur. This result is from all of us.”

The partnership between HJB and Hemopa has existed since 2016, when the National Institute for Social and Human Development (INDSH) took over the management of the hospital in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa).

In 2024, the blood donation campaigns promoted by HJB reached a historic mark, benefiting about 1,016 patients in the Pará hospital network.

HJB was represented by the Administrative and Financial Manager, Claudia Srbek; the coordinator of the Surgical Center (CC) and Central Sterilized Material (CME), Luciana Gomes; the biomedical responsible for the Transfusion Agency, Alyne Pardauil; the Occupational Safety technician, Claudirene Pinto; and the Board Assistant, Danielle Moraes.
