Arcon will strengthen regulation of sanitation and metropolitan transport
The Agency's team is expanded with professionals who participated in the Simplified Selection Process, to work in other essential services
The new professionals of the Regulatory and Control Agency for Public Services of the State of Pará (Arcon) were welcomed at the agency this Monday (1st), after participating in all stages of the Simplified Selection Process. The event took place in the auditorium of the School of Public Governance of the State of Pará (EGPA), in Belém.
The hiring of 61 professionals meets the main demands of the Agency. In light of the new phase of Arcon, which involves the regulation of environments such as sanitation, with the entry of the private sector in 126 municipalities, and metropolitan urban transport through the Metropolitan BRT, the hired professionals will act as transport controllers, analysts in the areas of transport, sanitation, and gas, and also as assistants to support the Agency's activities.
According to the general director of Arcon, Eduardo Ribeiro, this is an important step. “The selection process demonstrated a high technical level in the evaluations conducted. With this, we hope to structure the Agency so that it can perform its role of oversight and regulation of these essential services for the population of Pará in the best possible way,” said the general director.
Mobility - For Narjara Lima, an environmental sanitation engineer, the new stage in her career is promising. “This is a very interesting moment for me, as I had not specifically worked in the area of regulation before. This new opportunity is very beneficial, as it aligns with my studies and interests. I hold a master's degree in Urban Mobility and am finishing my doctorate in Development and Urban Environment, which addresses the systematics of urban mobility, sanitation, and energy efficiency. I believe this experience will significantly contribute to my work,” she emphasized.
During the welcoming event, the professionals learned about the structure of Arcon and the regulatory environment in which it operates, presented by the director of Standardization and Oversight, Alfredo Barros. The program also included a presentation on the Metropolitan BRT, conducted by the director of Metropolitan Transport, Gilberto Barbosa.
According to the new Public Services controller, Aquiles Ranieri Neto, “it is a new experience. Although I do not have in-depth technical knowledge, the presentation and the information that the initiative will be implemented in the BRT indicate that it will be an innovative project to participate in the control of this new mode of transport that started in November.”
New concessions - The reinforcement of Arcon's teams marks another step in strengthening the Agency for the regulation of historical concessions in Pará: the Metropolitan BRT and sanitation. Eduardo Ribeiro evaluated the progress of the projects and made projections for the development of the State.
The Metropolitan BRT started a month ago, in a phase of assisted operation, with a planned duration of 60 days. However, with the planned growth, the expectation is that all lines will operate by early December. “Currently, we operate with a smaller number of lines, but we believe that in the next 7 to 8 days, we will reach full operation of the 36 lines. So far, the assisted operation has been successful. Of course, we are still adjusting the system, evaluating the demands to size the offer in a way that meets the transportation needs of the population,” highlighted the general director.
Historic moment - Regarding the sanitation concession, the contracts for blocks A, B, and D were signed in July. This phase will extend until early January, when block C is expected to be finalized. Arcon plays a fundamental role in the concession, which covers 126 municipalities in Pará, acting in the regulation and oversight of these services.
“This is a historic phase for the State, allowing significant advances in universalization. The contract establishes a deadline until 2033 to achieve 99.8% coverage of water supply services and about 92% of sanitation services for the population. This is significant progress for a fundamental activity for the population, including as a health prevention factor,” added Eduardo Ribeiro.
