The public health network of the Tocantins Health Region received an important boost this Thursday (11) with the delivery of the Specialized Medication Dispensing Unit (UDME) in Cametá, in northeastern Pará. The new structure, implemented by the Government of Pará in partnership with the municipal administration, was created to ensure more agility, comfort, and quality in the service to users who depend on high-cost medications provided by the Unified Health System (SUS).

The delivery ceremony brought together municipal and state authorities, including the interim mayor of Cametá, Ênio Carvalho, the municipal health secretary, João Batista Monteiro Neto, and the director of the Regional Hospital of Cametá (HRC). Representing the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), Samuel Sena, coordinator of Management of the State Department of Pharmaceutical Assistance (DEAF), and Giordana Pontes, manager of the Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance in Pará, participated.

Closer service to the population

According to Giordana Pontes, the establishment of the unit represents a milestone for the region. Previously, many patients had to travel long distances, using river and road transport to Belém to collect essential medications for the continuity of their treatments.

“From now on, the UDME in Cametá decentralizes this service and facilitates access to specialized medications. The unit will serve the entire Tocantins Health Region, benefiting users from the municipalities of Baião, Cametá, Limoeiro do Ajuru, Mocajuba, and Oeiras do Pará, linked to the 13th Regional Health Center,” she highlighted.

With the new unit, residents of these municipalities will have access to a service closer to their homes, reducing travel and expanding access to specialized treatments.

Modern structure and qualified assistance

The UDME features modern facilities, air-conditioned environments, and a thermal monitoring system, ensuring proper conservation and effectiveness of high-complexity medications and immunobiologicals. The service flow has also been planned to provide greater efficiency, reducing waiting times and ensuring qualified pharmaceutical guidance to users.

At the location, the population will have access to medications from the Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance (CEAF), intended for the treatment of chronic, rare, and high-complexity diseases.

The establishment of the unit reinforces the policy of decentralization and regionalization of health services promoted by Sespa in the interior of the State, ensuring that the population has access to specialized treatments closer to home, with less travel and improved quality of life. The delivery represents another investment in expanding access to quality public health, strengthening pharmaceutical assistance and benefiting thousands of SUS users in the region.
