The Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara, visited the works of the City Park in Belém on Wednesday (19), built by the Government of Pará to host representatives from 190 countries during the United Nations World Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will be held in the capital of Pará in November 2025.

Accompanied by the State Secretary of Indigenous Peoples, Pyur Tembé, and the State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal, Sônia Guajajara visited one of the structural works of the State for the major international environmental event.

Minister Sônia Guajajara was informed about the details of the work

“It is time for the Amazon to speak to the world, and not for the world to speak for the Amazon. Here, people will be able to know this diversity of the Amazon and understand how important it is to protect the largest tropical forest in the world as one of the great contributors to the balance of the planet's climate. Brazil expects this COP so that, from here, we can have the participation not only of delegations from all over the world but also the protagonism of indigenous peoples and traditional communities. And this can be the COP of implementation, where decisions and agreements can be made as big as the emergency we need to face,” emphasized the minister.

Amazônia Reality - “This is a historic moment in every aspect. It is the first time that an event of the magnitude of COP comes to the State of Pará, and at this moment we have a Ministry and a Secretary of Indigenous Peoples. Everyone is working hard to show the Amazon and our reality because to talk about climate, it is necessary to listen to the indigenous peoples and traditional communities living in the forest. And that is why the Ministry is here today, visiting this construction site, this initiative of various fronts to make COP the best event, with the greatest participation of civil society,” emphasized Secretary Puyr Tembé.

“Our indigenous peoples have been teachers in this balanced relationship with nature. It is very important that we receive, today, in a special visit, the Minister of Indigenous Peoples Sônia Guajajara, accompanied by our Secretary of Indigenous Peoples, Pyur Tembé, to show that this is a park that cares about environmental preservation, with tree transplantation to create shade, living areas, and spaces that respect our way of life. It is obvious that this will initially be a complex occupied by the infrastructure of COP. But COP will be a COP of the Amazon in the Amazon, and this park will be the home of the peoples of the Amazon,” added Secretary Ursula Vidal.

Debate Center - Built on an area of 500 thousand square meters, where an airport used to operate, the City Park is the space where COP events will take place and will also be one of the great legacies of the conference for Belém. After the event, the Park will be handed over for public use.

The final project of the City Park includes the Aviation Museum, a Creative Economy Center, a Gastronomic Boulevard, bike paths and eco-trails, preserved green areas, an artificial lake, and sports facilities aimed at promoting quality of life, leisure, culture, art, and well-being.
