The Government of Pará continues with the advancement of the requalification project for Duque de Caxias Avenue in Belém. Executed by the Department of Public Works, the initiative is part of the preparations of the capital for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change - COP 30, which will take place in November 2025.

The teams have intensified their work pace to ensure improvements in the pavement of the avenue. Milling services and the installation of a new asphalt surface are being carried out at critical and worn points, signage, adjustments to existing bike lanes, installation of bus shelters in accordance with accessibility standards, requalification of sidewalks to ensure universal accessibility, and reconfiguration of surface drainage.

With a total length of 2.5 kilometers with a central median and two lanes, totaling 5,000 meters of roadway, Duque de Caxias Avenue is an arterial road that absorbs a large part of the traffic in the central region of Belém. The road, in addition to having a strategic location near the Hangar and other main event hubs of COP 30, serves as a secondary route to Belém International Airport.

Currently, the work fronts are focused on the area between Antônio Barreto Street and Humaitá Alley. Subsequently, efforts will be concentrated on the stretch from Humaitá to Mauriti Alley, with urbanization services for the central median and repaving.

According to the Secretary of Public Works, Ruy Cabral, the interventions are necessary to ensure the maintenance of the avenue, which is one of the main ones in the capital. Furthermore, according to the head of Seop, part of the work is being done at night to ensure the progress of the services without disrupting traffic flow during peak vehicle circulation times.

In addition to Duque de Caxias Avenue, asphalt requalification services have already been carried out on Belém Street, and next week, work will begin on Doutor Freitas Avenue.
