Strengthening strategies for the literacy of children at the right age is a commitment of the State Department of Education of Pará (Seduc) which, through the Alfabetiza Pará Program, is conducting another training for educators who act as pedagogical leaders in the municipalities. The training of module II, held in person in the hubs of Belém, Castanhal, Marabá, and Santarém this Tuesday (29), gathered more than 250 pedagogical coordination trainers and focused on pedagogical leadership with theoretical and practical foundations for effective management.

“This is module 2 of the training and it is very important because each coordinator, pedagogical coordination trainer, will return to their space and multiply this training. Here they learn, absorb this knowledge, and take it to the municipalities. The entire agenda of module 2 is focused on the pedagogical intervention of the teacher in the classroom, also considering levels of writing, literacy, and the use of these instruments, the relationship between the organization of pedagogical work and the mediating role of the pedagogical coordinator in their role as a pedagogical leader and strategies to mobilize and engage pedagogical teams in strengthening literacy and literacy practices,” explained Maura Fonseca, coordinator of Early Years at Seduc.

Teacher Jandira Claudia, from the Regional Education Directorate (DRE) Belém 3, evaluates that the training is fundamental for the quality of teaching and literacy of students. “This training is very important for the development of the activities we carry out at the DRE, so being here at this moment is of utmost importance because it gives us theoretical and practical foundations so that we can, on the ground at school, develop good work within the guidelines of Alfabetiza Pará, which is to ensure that all students, all children are literate by the end of the second year of elementary school. So this type of initiative does make a difference, for sure, a big difference,” she said.

For teacher Lurdelene Corrêa, trainer of the management front in Soure, in Marajó, this mobilization strengthens the strategies developed within the Alfabetiza Pará Program and enhances public education in Pará.

“This is the second module for the pedagogical coordinators of the Alfabetiza Pará training and it is of great importance for the pedagogical coordinators and school directors to be truly engaged in this leadership, to be part of the program, to know the program, and to encourage community participation as well. Today we call the director 'literacy director' and 'literacy coordinator', which is precisely to provide this support for teachers, so that we can achieve the goal of ensuring that these children are truly literate by the end of the second year of elementary school, at seven years of age. I believe we will have positive results for our children so that they can read, be literate, and be educated,” said the educator.

Alfabetiza Pará - Seduc launched the “Alfabetiza Pará” Program in January 2023, which, in a collaborative regime, assists the municipalities of Pará in the development of students during the literacy period. As part of the actions, the Program has already evaluated reading and writing fluency in municipalities that have joined the initiative and continuously distributes teaching materials to municipal networks.

In 2024, Pará more than doubled the number of reading children. In the first census evaluation of literacy, presented by the Federal Government in May of last year, the Ministry of Education (MEC) presented the significant advances that Pará achieved in Basic Education. In less than six months, the State met the literacy goal set for 2024, which was 37%, and exceeded it, reaching 48%.

With this growth, Pará ranked among the six states that most positively evolved literacy rates compared to 2019, the period before the Covid-19 pandemic. For this work, the Program won gold in the "National Seal Commitment to Literacy" from the MEC.
