Labor Day Holiday Will Have Extra Detran Personnel
Detran strengthens inspection with 150 agents and video monitoring on the roads during the holiday

On Labor Day, celebrated on May 1st, the State Department of Transit (Detran) will reinforce inspection starting this Wednesday, the 30th, on BR-316 (from kilometer 01 to 18) and on state highways leading to the main destinations for residents of Pará. Considering that the holiday will be followed by a non-working day only for public service, Detran estimates that these highways will see an increase of about 20% in vehicle traffic.
About 150 inspection agents will carry out this monitoring until next Sunday, the 4th, especially on PAs 444 and 124 in Salinópolis; PA-391, on the way to Mosqueiro; and on PA-483, on the Alça Viária, in addition to BR-316. “It is a holiday with moderate movement, considering that many people work on Friday and Saturday. Nevertheless, there is a record of increased traffic, which requires attention from the inspection personnel to curb excesses that put at risk the lives of those who will go out to enjoy the holiday,” explains Detran's technical operational director, Bento Gouveia.
The precautions are the same as during major operations, especially the fight against the practice of driving after consuming alcoholic beverages. Another concern is speeding, as many drivers will make short trips and, in this case, it is common to rush to arrive, which can pose a danger for those who do not pay attention to the speed limits of the road and to dangerous overtaking. Detran reminds that there are speed control devices on state highways and that drivers who do not respect the signage and who overtake in continuous lines will be fined.
Once again, human inspection will be supported by video monitoring from Detran's Operations Control Center to identify vehicles with theft/robbery records, with overdue licensing, and unlicensed drivers. “These are the main precautions for inspection, as most incidents with victims have these recklessness as primary causes. Additionally, it is important to check the vehicle's conditions before hitting the road to avoid breakdowns during the journey that could disrupt traffic flow,” advises Gouveia.

Traffic Flow - Another aspect of the Labor Day operation will be monitoring the highways to identify slow points and make necessary interventions. Detran's recommendation is to leave the capital before 7 a.m. or after 8 p.m. to avoid peak traffic times when leaving for the holiday.
Similarly, returning to Belém requires attention to the best time to avoid possible traffic jams. The ideal is to arrive in Belém by 4 p.m. on Sunday. Upon return, agents will be attentive to the areas where traffic congestion is usually recorded, generally between kilometers 17 and 10, in Marituba. “If necessary, we will implement a reversible lane on the BR. We will take one lane from the direction of leaving the city and turn it into a third lane for entering the capital,” concludes the director.
