Secult promotes meeting and creates GT for regulation of the Pará audiovisual sector
The Working Group is formed by cultural agents and has the mission of analyzing and developing guidelines for a comprehensive policy for the sector

The Secretary of Culture of Pará (Secult) held a meeting to discuss the implementation of the Milton Mendonça State Law, which regulates the Pará audiovisual sector. The meeting, on Wednesday (30), took place virtually with the participation of around 80 people.
Among the main outcomes, the creation of a Working Group (GT) was decided, composed of cultural agents with experience in various links of the audiovisual production chain. The voluntary work will analyze and develop guidelines for a comprehensive policy for the sector in Pará.
“From now on, this working group will begin a hard work, an intense study activity, meetings, all so that we can implement the Milton Mendonça Law in a democratic and efficient manner, reaching this immense chain that the audiovisual sector moves. And Secult will closely monitor this, ensuring that the GT has all the necessary support,” says the state secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal.
“The Milton Mendonça Law is one that should meet the demand of the Pará market. The regulation of this law will create guidelines for its operation, aiming to promote growth and support for the Pará audiovisual market. This meeting was essential for us to define the next steps; we formed a new working group of people who will dedicate themselves to studying the audiovisual production chain, the legislation, all with the goal of implementing the law in a way that meets our cultural makers,” says the current director of the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS), Indaiá Freire, who will coordinate the GT.
Audiovisual producer Gustavo Godinho evaluates the meeting positively. “I think it was very timely to call for this conversation about the next steps of the law, since it had been stalled for various reasons. There was a demand to bring the discussion back to the forefront, and now we are heading in a good direction,” he says.
“The discussion is technical, so the time required for a process like this is not short, but I believe that if this law is implemented in a timely manner, it will be a significant change in the audiovisual sector of Pará, in the culture of Pará as a whole. I think it will really be a change that no one could have imagined a decade ago, or even less than that,” concludes Godinho.
According to Secult, the Law is an important milestone for Pará culture as an affirmation of cultural identity and appreciation, as well as a public policy instrument for promotion and generation of jobs and income. Sanctioned by Governor Helder Barbalho, the Law is a proposal from state deputy Carlos Bordalo (PT), which addresses the promotion, support, and incentive for audiovisual in the scope of Pará.
