In the daily fight against drug trafficking in the western region of Pará, a four-legged special agent has become a true legend. Ísis, a Belgian Malinois dog, is part of the 1st Sector Canine Unit of the 2nd Special Missions Battalion (2nd BME) of the Military Police and, at four years old, has already achieved significant victories in the fight against organized crime in the region.

Ísis's story in the force began two years ago when she was donated by a couple of breeders in Santarém. After an evaluation authorized by the commander of the 2nd BME, Lieutenant Colonel Wilton Chaves, the team of canine police officers quickly identified the dog's potential, which demonstrated physical endurance, emotional stability, and a strong work instinct — ideal qualities for policing. In less than a year, Ísis was already participating in operations.

Since then, her performance has been marked by precision and effectiveness in detecting illicit substances. With a keen sense of smell and a high level of concentration, Ísis operates in approaches to vessels, buses, cars, residences, bus stations, and airports. Her synergy with the handler is also cited as a crucial factor for success in operations.

Training and Care

Ísis's performance is the result of continuous preparation work. She receives a balanced diet, undergoes routine examinations, and participates in specific training aimed at drug detection. Playful activities are also part of the dog's routine, helping to relieve stress and maintain physical conditioning.

The 2nd BME has a team dedicated to the care of the animals: there are nine police officers in the kennel, 28 in the mounted platoon, and three military personnel in the health team, who oversee seven dogs and 29 horses. One of the dogs is in training to work with canine therapy, while three horses are being trained for equine therapy sessions.

A Legacy in the Fight Against Trafficking

Ísis's role is particularly strategic in a region marked by waterways that cut through the Amazon and are used by international drug trafficking. In one of the most impactful operations, "Fake Ferry," the dog helped locate more than two tons of narcotics hidden between Santarém and Óbidos. In total, she has contributed to the seizure of approximately 2.5 tons of drugs just this year, 2025.

According to Sergeant Felipe Rego, responsible for her training, the dog's dedication impressed from the first days. "She arrived already an adult and quickly showed great potential. We started with basic training and, as she progressed, we directed her towards substance detection," he explained.

Now, Ísis is beginning to build a legacy. One of her puppies, named Tupã, is already in training and has even accompanied his mother during a supervised internship. The expectation is that he will reach the same technical standard and become another ally in the fight against trafficking in the region.

Much More Than a Police Dog

Ísis is more than a police dog: she represents the commitment of the Military Police of Pará to strategic intelligence, the use of living technologies, and the strengthening of public security actions. Her performance, supported by a qualified technical team, reinforces the role of the corporation in protecting the society of Pará and dismantling criminal networks in the Amazon.
