Operation Athena strengthens visible policing throughout Pará to combat violent crimes
Integrated action of the Military Police mobilizes intermediate and specialized commands focused on prevention and qualified repression in areas with higher crime incidence.

With the aim of further reducing Intentional Lethal Violent Crimes (CVLI), robberies, and thefts, the Military Police of Pará initiated on May 1st, Operation Athena, which reinforced visible policing throughout the state. The action was coordinated by the General Operations Department (DGO) and involved the Intermediate Policing Commands (COINTs), which will operate with maximum operational capacity in strategic areas until the end of the extended holiday on May 4th.
The plan was developed based on historical analysis of comparative criminal data from the first months of 2024, which indicated a higher rate of violence during certain periods and in specific regions. The operation focuses on special prevention actions with high visibility, including visible patrolling, saturation, incursions in conflict areas, police blockades, and vehicle inspections.

The concentration and launch points of the operation were defined according to the structure of the COINTs. In Belém, the Amazon Portal was the initial location for the actions of CPC I, CME, CPA, and CPE. The other commands are operating in high traffic and visibility corridors, according to the crime map of their areas.
Among the measures adopted are barriers and blockades for the seizure of stolen vehicles, incursions in locations with a history of violence, execution of arrest warrants, and repression of drug trafficking. The Special Missions Command (CME) and the Specialized Policing Command (CPE) provide support with reinforcements of second and third efforts.
According to the general commander of PMPA, Colonel Dilson Júnior, Operation Athena reinforces the commitment of the Government of Pará to public safety.
“We are mobilizing our forces, focusing on critical areas, with the aim of protecting lives and maintaining tranquility for the people of Pará. The integrated action of our commands demonstrates the strength and efficiency of preventive and repressive police work in combating crime,” highlighted the commander.

The goal of Operation Athena is to further decrease CVLI rates during the execution period, ensuring the integrity of individuals throughout the Pará territory.
