The intensified work of the agents operating at the Integrated River Base "Antônio Lemos", located in Breves, in the Marajó Archipelago, resulted in yet another major drug seizure this Monday (5), destined for the capital of Pará. About 490 kilograms of drugs, including marijuana (skunk type) and oxi stones, were located during an inspection of a vessel that had departed from Manaus (AM).

Another large drug shipment was removed from circulation by agents of the River Base installed in Marajó

The Secretary of State for Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, highlighted the effectiveness that the Integrated Base has been achieving year after year. "The seizure of nearly half a ton of drugs today (5), by the Integrated River Base 'Antônio Lemos', clearly demonstrates its effectiveness in combating crime and ensuring public safety in our region. This significant result is the fruit of strategic investment in inspection and the dedication of our agents, who work tirelessly to protect our society," said the head of Segup.

The large seizure began this morning (5) when teams were conducting patrols on the Tajapuru River, the main route for cargo and passenger vessels in the Marajó region. In one of the integrated inspections, coordinated by the Public Security River Group, linked to Segup, on the vessel "Jean Filho LIII", which was transporting two barges, a truck raised suspicions.

With the assistance of the sniffer dog Jay-Z, from the Military Police's Canine Action Battalion, the cargo was found, divided between 452.5 kg of marijuana and 38.5 kg of oxi stones, totaling nearly half a ton. The truck driver and the drugs were taken to the River Base for the necessary procedures. The drugs, after forensic work, will be incinerated, as per standard procedure.

Results - The Integrated River Base Antônio Lemos has stood out in operations to seize illegal materials, including wood and drugs. On April 22, 2025, it seized 24 cubic meters of undocumented wood, which was being transported to Abaetetuba, in the Tocantins Integration Region. The wood was forwarded to the Municipal Environmental Fund of Portel (a municipality in Marajó), after a fine of R$ 6,480.00.

Between October 19 and 30, 2024, the base seized over a ton of drugs (1,067.59 kg), including marijuana and skunk, in seven operations on the Tajapuru River. On December 28, 2024, there was a seizure of over 150 cubic meters of illegal wood, transported with irregular documentation, which was heading from Santarém to Belém.

The Base, installed on the Tajapuru River since June 2022, has proven effective in combating environmental crimes and drug trafficking. "The River Base has proven to be a fundamental pillar in repressing drug trafficking and protecting our natural resources, and we will continue to strengthen this important tool to ensure a safer future for all citizens of Pará," reinforced Ualame Machado.
