The State Secretary of Culture delivered, on Tuesday (6), 21 copies of publications made by Secult itself to the Mercedarians of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). The delivery was made directly by the State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal, to the rector of UFPA, Gilmar Pereira da Silva.

The Mercedarians building is part of the historical and cultural heritage of Belém, and the Federal University of Pará has developed teaching, research, extension, and cultural activities at the site, making it a cultural space in the Historical Center of the capital of Pará.

“Our intention is to ensure the enjoyment of this immense literary production of research that Secult has been accumulating, very attentively ensuring a policy of well-edited book publications, with very delicate finishing, books that are meant to be collected, to strengthen the appreciation of our history,” says Secretary Ursula Vidal.

Over the years, Secult has published around 60 titles, of which 15 were edited during the current administration, from 2019 to 2024.

The books range from children's stories to technical works on important cultural assets of the state. Among the authors are names like Edyr Augusto Proença, Dona Onete, Juraci Siqueira, as well as other important figures of Pará's culture and literature.

“We have books dedicated to the youth audience, to research in the area of heritage, to poetry, to biography, and in our reserve, we still have a very significant number of copies. So we decided to look at our reserve, catalog these titles by areas of interest, and make donations to libraries of institutions that work with teaching, research, the appreciation of culture, and access to reading,” concludes the head of the department.

“It is a joy to be able to strengthen ties with the Secretary of Culture, and more than that, this delivery of many books in the area of culture, in the area of the arts, is very important to strengthen our libraries. We have courses in music, cinema, theater, dance, and a large part of these books can be studied by our students and our teachers. We have already talked and requested support so that we can have some of these books also donated to our campuses,” says the rector of UFPA, Gilmar Pereira Silva.

In the coming days, Secult will also deliver to institutions such as Usinas da Paz, the Historical and Geographical Institute of Pará (IHGP), among others.
