Environmental education and seedling planting engage students in São Geraldo do Araguaia
The initiative aimed to bring students closer to environmental issues and promote awareness about the importance of nature conservation

The Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio), through the Administrative Region Management of Araguaia (GRA), carried out an environmental education action with 6th-grade students from the Municipal School Raimundo Ferreira Lima, in São Geraldo do Araguaia, southeastern Pará. The initiative aimed to bring students closer to environmental themes and promote awareness about the importance of nature conservation.
During the activity, students participated in interactive lectures, educational dynamics, and discussion circles, addressing topics such as biodiversity, reforestation, plant cycles, and the impacts of deforestation. The actions were planned to encourage youth leadership in preservation practices and care for the environment.
One of the most remarkable moments of the action was the production of seedlings of native species, carried out in the nursery maintained by the GRA. The practical experience allowed students to understand, in a concrete way, the process of germination and growth of plants, as well as to strengthen their bond with nature.

Involvement - With technical guidance from the Ideflor-Bio team, the students themselves participated in the planting of seedlings, initiating the process of afforestation in areas around the school. The activity focused on awakening environmental responsibility in young people and demonstrating, in practice, how small actions can contribute to local sustainability.
The action is part of Ideflor-Bio's strategies to promote environmental education in schools in the region, combining theory and practice to form a more conscious and committed generation to the preservation of natural resources. The presence of students in the nursery and in the field was essential to make learning more meaningful and participatory.
“Our goal is to bring young people closer to the environmental reality of the territory where they live, awakening a sense of belonging and commitment to nature protection. We believe that by involving children and adolescents in practical actions like this, we are forming more conscious citizens prepared to face the environmental challenges of the present and the future,” said the manager of the Administrative Region of Araguaia, Laís Mercedes.
