With colored pencils and a lot of affection, children hospitalized in the pediatric ward of the Dr. Abelardo Santos Regional Hospital (HRAS) in Icoaraci participated in a special activity in honor of Mother's Day. The initiative was promoted by the unit's Humanization Committee and provided moments of affection and emotion for mothers and families, with the creation of personalized handmade cards by the little patients.

Even at a young age, Mikael dedicated himself to the surprise for his mother, Eliete Barbosa, who was moved to receive the card. "It's not easy to see our child with fragile health. For us, it would be more important to spend this moment with them at home. But actions like these give us strength to understand that this is part of life and that it will soon pass. I was very touched by all this affection and the support of the entire Abelardo Santos team at this moment," she reported.

Mikael, even so young, personalized almost the entire card for his mother by himself

Another participant was Heitor Kauê, only 2 years old, who personalized a card for his mother, Thalia Juliana de Castro, 20 years old. "There's no way not to be moved. Every gesture of love, regardless of the form, brings good feelings of affection and care. I loved the surprise and I will keep the card forever," Thalia said.

"I helped him, but I received it with emotion as if he had done it alone," Juliana said

The activity was supported by volunteers and professionals from the unit, who assisted the children in creating the cards, filled with drawings, words of affection, and spontaneous messages. The symbolic gesture brought comfort to families during a delicate moment of hospitalization.

Joeley Tembé, father of Kennay Tembé, 10 years old, highlighted the emotional value of the tribute: "This is a simple gesture, but it carries many meanings. Seeing my son strive to deliver a message of love to his mother, even while hospitalized, is priceless. It is something that fills me with pride at this very special moment."

Mothers could not contain their emotions upon receiving the cards made by their children

Care that goes beyond treatment - According to Suzane Gonzaga, Humanization supervisor at HRAS, the purpose of the action is to integrate clinical care with practices that promote the emotional well-being of patients and their families. "More than a tribute, this action represents a moment of connection between mothers and children, even in a delicate context like hospitalization. It is a way to show that care goes beyond medical treatment, reaching the emotional and strengthening affective bonds, which is essential for the patient's faster recovery," she explained.

Pediatric reference in the State - The Abelardo Santos Hospital, belonging to the Government of Pará, is a reference in care for women and children, with four pediatric fronts: emergency, surgery, clinical hospitalization, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The structure also includes Intermediate Care Units (UCIn), 10 pediatric ICU beds, 25 pediatric clinical beds, and a children's emergency room operating 24 hours.
