With the delivery of two thousand certificates this Monday (12), the Government of Pará reached, in one year, the mark of 22 thousand certifications through the Capacita COP30 program, which offers free qualification and professional training courses in the areas of tourism, gastronomy, infrastructure, and security. The initiative prepares women and men to work in the job market and seize opportunities with the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in November this year in Belém.

Now, in addition to continuing to offer courses, the Government of Pará is also working on creating a platform that will connect certified individuals with companies interested in hiring this specialized workforce. The technology will be available in the coming weeks.

Platform will connect certified students to companies

The platform will be a kind of resume bank, where those who qualified through Capacita COP30 can register. At the same time, companies in the tourism, hospitality, services, and gastronomy sectors will also be able to register on the app to select and hire professionals.

“This is our challenge: to act so that this qualified workforce is utilized by companies here in Pará. We will connect those looking for labor with those who have qualified,” emphasized Governor Helder Barbalho during the certificate delivery ceremony held at Hangar - Amazon Convention and Fair Center in Belém.

Training as a legacy of COP30

The head of the state executive also highlighted that the Capacita COP30 program was an idea of the vice-governor, Hana Ghassan, to ensure that during the conference, the local workforce is prioritized.

“Hana advocated for the training of people from Pará so that, during COP30, not only outside labor would be utilized. Professional qualification through Capacita is also a legacy of the COP,” said Helder Barbalho.

Vice-governor Hana Ghassan, who also chairs the State Committee of COP30, highlighted the legacy that Capacita COP30 will leave in various sectors, especially in tourism, which could be one of the sectors generating the most jobs.

“I want to congratulate all of you who are investing in your dreams by qualifying. By doing this, we are becoming part of your lives and helping to take this very important step, which is qualification,” she said.

Residents of islands and outskirts are also benefited

Considered one of the largest qualification and professional training programs in the country, Capacita COP30 represents an opportunity for women and men of various ages and from all regions of the state. The courses are offered by the Secretary of Science, Technology, Higher Education, Professional and Technological Education (Sectet), with the support of 25 other partners, including government secretariats, educational institutions, and private sector entities.

In Belém, the program benefits both residents of central neighborhoods and those from peripheral areas, as well as people living in districts and on islands. This is the case of community leader Ednei Nascimento from the Island of Combu, who received his certificate for the Tourism Management course from Governor Helder Barbalho himself.

“COP30 is already being experienced by us, and this training took place in person. It was the second course I took; the first was in tourism marketing,” he commented.

In Ednei's class was entrepreneur Ana Cardoso, 61, who runs a lodging establishment on the Island of Combu.

“The initiative of the Government of Pará, through Capacita COP30, crossed the river and reached our community. There were more than 40 hours of classes, in person, so that we could develop our own projects and ensure income with sustainable practices on the island,” she highlighted.

Stories of overcoming and new directions

Colleagues in the Baking and Confectionery course, Ednan Araújo, 29, and Valéria Santos, 48, went together to seek their certificates. Both share the desire to start a business with the knowledge acquired. She, a resident of the Parque Verde neighborhood, already has a business in the food service sector.

“The course allowed me to learn new techniques and recipes. This broadened the horizon for a new path I can follow,” said Valéria. Ednan intends to open a pizzeria.

Student Grasielly de Nazaré, 18, completed the English course and hopes to secure a job.

“I finished high school and took the course. The curriculum was more intense than I would have in a private course. Now, I am putting this training on my resume and I intend to take new courses through Capacita COP30. I saw that there are also courses in Distance Learning format,” she shared.

New classes and more opportunities

This Tuesday (13), the Capacita COP30 program begins a new phase with the opening of 1,200 vacancies in courses in the areas of tourism, gastronomy, and customer service. In-person classes will be held in the cities of Belém, Castanhal, Salinópolis, Soure, Salvaterra, and Santarém.

Among the available courses are: hospitality and lodging, digital marketing for the tourism sector, digital tourism, artificial intelligence applied to tourism, basic and advanced English for tourism business, Amazon cuisine, public speaking, receptive tourism, waiter and waitress, hospitality and leisure, sustainable tourism management, basic Libras, food handling and preservation, and digital influencer.

For the Secretary of Sectet, Victor Dias, the qualification of the workforce in Pará is essential to ensure that the benefits of COP30 reach the population directly.

“Professional qualification expands opportunities for our population and ensures that the benefits of this major international event are felt concretely by the Pará society. We are already in the ninth offering of courses promoted by Sectet, reaffirming our commitment to inclusion, sustainable development, and income generation for our people,” he emphasized.
