Public education is a priority agenda for the Government of Pará, which, through the State Department of Education (Seduc), has reinforced this commitment with investments, programs, and actions. This Wednesday (14), the community of the Guamá neighborhood celebrates the delivery of the Paulo Maranhão State Full-Time School in Belém. With this new unit, the current state administration reaches the mark of 170 fully reconstructed school units in the Pará territory.

In total, R$ 8.3 million were invested in the construction of the unit, which has the capacity to serve 400 students from the 6th to the 9th grades of elementary education in the full-time modality. Seduc understands full-time education as a great benefit for students, who can have more quality time committed to their studies.

For the school principal, the moment is one of gratitude for the appreciation of the school community. “This moment represents a great achievement, not only for me but for all the students, families, staff, and the community. I feel very proud and grateful for the reconstruction of our school,” said Roberta Purcell.

“As a manager, closely following this entire transformation process of the school and being able to deliver a more comfortable, modern, and welcoming space for our community is very gratifying,” added the principal.

The manager made a point of saying that the school is impeccable. “Today, we have a school with air-conditioned classrooms, which ensures more comfort for students and teachers, in addition to an equipped computer lab that expands pedagogical possibilities and prepares our students for the digital world. We also gained a renewed library to encourage reading, reflection, and critical thinking. The school has changed a lot. What we didn’t have before, we now have with quality: a space that values everyone who interacts in the school, with adequate infrastructure and environments that favor teaching and learning. It is a new beginning in the history of our school. I feel very honored to be part of all this,” highlighted Roberta Purcell.

The Paulo Maranhão State Full-Time School has 15 classrooms; science lab; computer room; reading room; multimedia room; Specialized Educational Assistance (AEE) room; sports court; auditorium; offices for the principal, vice-principal, and teachers; secretary; archive; pantry; storage; cafeteria; bathrooms for females, males, and a bathroom for People with Disabilities (PWDs).

According to student Dafne Souza, from the 9th grade of elementary education, the brand new school gives a new boost. “Seeing the school so beautiful warms the heart of those who have been here for a long time waiting for this reconstruction. This gives us the certainty that persisting in what many have given up is worth it. I do believe that this encourages us in our studies. It is a great satisfaction to study and learn in a welcoming and comfortable environment. Especially because the school is our second home,” she shared.

For student Fábio Nicolas Maciel, also from the 9th grade of elementary education, the feeling is one of joy. “Seeing our brand new school means a lot. It is a success because this school has had other renovations, but this reopening is an achievement; we deserve it a lot. I believe that the school, the way it is, all renovated, with air-conditioned classrooms, computer room, library, and science room… encourages students to study even more. We are all very happy and need to take care of the school to keep it new,” he commented.

Teacher Sônia Silva highlighted the importance of the reconstruction for the students' learning and the work of the teaching staff. “It is with great joy that I share my experience regarding the recent renovation of our school. The reconstruction not only revitalized the physical space but also brought a new energy and motivation for all of us, educators and students. Before the renovation, we faced daily challenges with worn-out classrooms and inadequate infrastructure, which often hindered learning. Now, with more modern and welcoming environments, our students feel more comfortable and inspired to learn. The new classrooms are equipped with technology that facilitates interaction and engagement, allowing classes to be more dynamic and attractive,” emphasized the educator.

Full-time education - State full-time schools maintain a daily schedule of 9 hours and 45 hours weekly or 7 hours daily and 35 hours weekly. The full-time journey provides more resources for student development in order to form autonomous, supportive, and competent individuals. Schools with a full-time schedule also guarantee students three daily meals (lunch and two snacks).

For 2025, the State Department of Education (Seduc) has implemented 49 more units that adopted the Full-Time Education Program (PEI), totaling 161 schools with this pedagogical model.

In addition to the increase in the number of schools, the impact of this expansion is clearly visible in the growth of enrollments. In 2018, full-time schools in Pará served 6,000 students; in 2025 there was a leap to 48,000 enrollments, an eightfold increase in service capacity. A result that reflects the State's commitment to providing more opportunities for students, with access to quality full-time education. With this expansion, Pará consolidates an education model that seeks equity and excellence, ensuring that more students have access to a comprehensive educational formation that prioritizes various areas of knowledge and human development.
