The Government of Pará, through the Civil Police (PCPA), delivered on Tuesday (20), in Belém, the Tourist Protection Police Station and 400 MPX submachine guns, caliber 9x19MM for the use of Judicial Police agents. This represents an investment of approximately R$ 5 million funded by the State Treasury and the Public Security Investment Fund (Fisp), linked to the Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup).

The new police station is located in the Estação das Docas complex in Belém and has service rooms that ensure better working conditions for public security agents, providing quality service to tourists who need assistance during their stay in the capital of Pará.

The Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, commented on the increasing number of tourists visiting the State, highlighting the importance of the new police station in a strategic environment. “Tourism is becoming a new vocation for our State. We have a growing number of tourists visiting us, and Belém is increasingly consolidating itself as the capital of the Amazon. The state opens the doors to the first specialized police station for tourist assistance. We chose the Estação das Docas because it is the main tourist spot in our capital to properly assist, serve, and protect the tourists who come to visit us,” he emphasized.

During the agenda, 400 MPX submachine guns, caliber 9x19MM, from the brand Sig Sauer, were also delivered, acquired through international procurement and will be used in the actions of the Civil Police, enhancing the work carried out daily throughout Pará in combating crime. The firearms are budgeted at R$ 4,704,000.00 from the Public Security Investment Fund (Fisp).

The Secretary of Public Security of the State, Ualame Machado, spoke about the need for a police station focused on tourist assistance. “Many cities and states with tourist vocations already have this type of structure, and now Pará takes another step forward, offering good service to our tourists in a place they already frequent. In addition, we continue to equip the Civil Police more and more with the delivery of 400 imported submachine guns, produced in the largest factories in the world, ensuring that our police officers have the necessary equipment to perform their work with more safety and efficiency,” he stated.

The new police unit is linked to the Specialized Police Directorate (DPE) and aims to investigate and suppress crimes, violations of rights, and offenses committed against tourists. Police reports can be filed for any crimes where the victims are tourists, as well as for lost documents. The agents are capable of assisting tourists in English and Spanish.

“It is an innovative initiative aimed at protecting tourists, not only for COP 30 but also for all who visit the Amazon region, especially the state of Pará and the city of Belém, to enjoy its cultural and gastronomic wealth. The firearms received today will be used in the fight against organized crime. Our specialized groups combating factions and bank robbers will be trained to handle them and, after authorization, will use them both in urban and rural areas,” explained the General Delegate, Raimundo Benassully.

STRUCTURE

With nearly R$100,000 in investments, the police station will have a complete police team, including a delegate, clerk, and police investigator. The space has a reception area, a room for the delegate, a room for police assistance, and a kitchen.

With only 174 days left until COP 30, which will be held in November in Belém, the capital of Pará reinforces security with the creation of the police unit, explains the head of the new police station, Guilherme Gonçalves. “The Tourist Protection Police Station represents a strategic advancement for public safety in Belém and throughout the State of Pará, especially at this moment as we prepare to host COP 30. The initiative reinforces the commitment of the Civil Police to specialized, efficient, and welcoming service to visitors, in addition to being an investment in a structure that combines prevention, investigation, and the promotion of citizenship,” he emphasized.
