Government installs monitoring totem in Bragança and will build PM Battalion
The equipment is installed at a strategic point on the city's waterfront, ensuring excellent visual coverage of the area and agility in responding to emergencies.
To strengthen public safety actions in Bragança, northeastern Pará, the Government of Pará, through the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), delivered a public safety totem on the morning of this Friday, 23. The equipment is installed at a strategic point on the city's waterfront, ensuring excellent visual coverage of the area and greater agility in responding to urgent and emergency occurrences for the population.
Governor Helder Barbalho presided over the delivery ceremony to the public and highlighted the strategy for the deployment and location of the equipment. “The importance of the location of this equipment was chosen in one of the tourist spots in the city of Bragança, where there is a high circulation of people, so that we can be present here 24 hours a day, using technology in favor of public safety, so that with the information this equipment provides, we can reinforce the itinerant teams, the mobile policing teams, and thus ensure tranquility for the population. It is important that the city hall can use this sound tool to convey messages. Therefore, every night, since this is a meeting point in the city of Bragança, they can provide guidance on health policies, education, service orientations, and with this, we can fully utilize this tool in favor of the local community,” emphasized the head of the state executive.
The totems are part of the "Smart Cities" project that strengthens the partnership with municipalities, aiming to enhance security actions using technology, with resources for video monitoring and artificial intelligence. Currently, the equipment is distributed across several municipalities in Pará, such as Belém, as well as the cities of Ananindeua, Altamira, Marabá, Santarém, Salinópolis, Marituba, and now, in Bragança.
Municipalities such as Abaetetuba, Barcarena, Breves, Canaã dos Carajás, Cametá, Capanema, Castanhal, Igarapé-Miri, Itaituba, Mãe do Rio, Moju, Paragominas, Parauapebas, Redenção, Tailândia, and Tucuruí will also be equipped, fulfilling the commitment to expand the capacity for video monitoring in the municipalities of Pará through technology and artificial intelligence.
The Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, reinforced that Pará is in the second phase of the Smart Cities project, with the deployment of new equipment and the expansion of the project to other municipalities in Pará.
“We deployed 50 of these in the State in the first phase, and now we have started the deployment of another 50 pieces of equipment. This is the first in Bragança, and more will come. Its objective is to be closer to society, so that they have this contact with public safety and the use of intelligence and technology. I highlight some functionalities of the equipment; it is a completely armored totem, fireproof and vandal-proof. Any vandalism or generation of flame triggers an alert for us, and we are notified. It also allows citizens to contact the CIOp, the NIOp, by pressing a button, without using a cell phone. Let’s say a person had their cell phone stolen, and they can contact the CIOP through this button to report the occurrence and alert the nearest patrol. It has 6 cameras; in fact, one of the cameras communicates with the person activating it. The other 5 cameras are positioned above, 4 fixed and one Speed Dome that rotates 360 degrees and has artificial intelligence. It recognizes license plates of stolen or robbed vehicles, and the totem also has facial recognition for individuals wanted by Justice. There is also an audible signal that can give warnings within a radius of 100 meters, alert someone, draw attention to someone, or a public service. And basically, its primary function is also to have this access to the community, which is why we are always installing it in locations with high foot traffic,” explained the head of Segup.
Functionality - The Video Monitoring Totem System operates through an emergency button, which when pressed, will transmit the call directly to the agent operating the cameras within the Integrated Operations Center, the CIOp. The occurrence will be recorded, and immediately a team of police officers will be dispatched to the location indicated by the victim for immediate assistance. Additionally, the Totem operates with embedded artificial intelligence technology, with facial and vehicle plate recognition, with the possibility of directing messages according to the recognition captured by the cameras, thus assisting in the search for fugitives from Justice, as well as stolen cars. It also has an anti-vandalism device, with an alarm triggered at any attempt to vandalize the equipment, which is also armored, and will operate 24 hours a day.
State partners with the City Hall for the construction of the New PM Battalion
During the official agenda in Bragança, the state government also established a partnership with the municipal government, which provided a new space for the construction of the Military Police Battalion. The new structure to be built aims to ensure better working conditions and also the training of new military personnel, ensuring the safety of the population living in and visiting the region.
"Today represents a historic milestone for public safety in the municipality of Bragança. We are establishing a partnership between the state and municipal government, receiving a plot of land where the future headquarters of the 33rd Battalion will be built here in Bragança. For us, improving the work structure enables Bragança to continue as a hub for training new police officers and certainly bringing more security to all residents of Bragança and the surrounding municipalities," said the commander-general of the Military Police, Col. PM Dilson Júnior.
