Pará stands out at the annual meeting of the Governors' Climate and Forests Task Force in Rio Branco
Through Semas, the state that will host COP30 integrated discussions on environmental policies and highlighted low-carbon sustainable development initiatives

The Government of Pará was one of the highlights of the 15th Annual Meeting of the Governors' Climate and Forests (GCF Task Force), which concluded this Friday (23) in Rio Branco, Acre. Represented by the Secretary of Environment and Sustainability (Semas), the state actively participated in discussions on strategies to combat deforestation and forest fires, jurisdictional REDD+, bioeconomy, sustainable livestock, forest restoration, and financing of environmental policies.
The event brought together leaders from 11 countries and more than 43 states and provinces, with a broad program focused on implementing local and global actions for the protection of tropical forests. This year, the central theme was "New Forest Economy: Connecting Governments, Peoples, and Opportunities."

“We had a strategic agenda here in Acre, especially in the technical discussions with the environment secretaries of the Amazon. We presented pioneering policies implemented in Pará that have been standing out nationally. Pará's presence here reaffirms our strategic role, especially with the COP30 taking place in 2025,” highlighted Raul Protázio Romão, Secretary of Environment and Sustainability of Pará.

Highlights in reforestation and sustainable livestock
During the panel “Restoring degraded landscapes: building economic and climate resilience,” the secretary presented Brazil's first forest concession project for reforestation: the Triunfo do Xingu Recovery Unit, located in Altamira, in the southwest of the state. The initiative, part of the State Plan Amazon Now, foresees investments of R$ 258 million, the generation of 2,000 jobs, and the sequestration of up to 3.7 million tons of carbon.
“It is a concrete solution with environmental and socioeconomic impacts, and serves as a model for other regions of the country and the world,” said Protázio.

The Deputy Secretary of Water Resources and Climate Management of Semas, Renata Nobre, presented the innovative integrity and development program for Pará's livestock, which is promoting the individual identification of the cattle and buffalo herds in the state. The measure aims to strengthen the traceability of the production chain and open doors to new markets, directly benefiting rural producers.

“This is an ambitious policy that enhances integrity and ensures sustainability for one of the most relevant production chains in the state,” highlighted Renata.
Regional and international articulation
Pará also participated in meetings of the Forum of Environment Secretaries of the Legal Amazon, with the nine states of the region, as well as entities such as the Legal Amazon Consortium, German Cooperation GIZ, BNDES, and the Brazilian Association of State Environmental Entities (Abema). Among the topics discussed were the updating of state plans to combat deforestation, the implementation of REDD+ actions, and financing strategies through the Amazon Fund.

The GCF meeting takes place annually in a location chosen by voting among its participants. The previous meeting was held in the city of Mérida, Mexico.
