The National Secretariat for Penal Policies (Senappen) announced the donation of 500 televisions and 49 notebooks to the State Secretariat for Penitentiary Administration (Seap) of Pará. The initiative aims to expand social reintegration actions through educational and cultural projects in the state's prison units.

The announcement was made by the national coordinator of Education, Culture, and Leisure of Senappen, Rodrigo Dias, during a visit to Belém, where he was able to closely observe the successful initiatives developed by Seap. In a meeting with the head of the department, Marco Antonio Sirotheau Corrêa Rodrigues, at the headquarters of the secretariat, Rodrigo confirmed that the new equipment will be used in actions such as preparations for the National Examination for Certification of Young and Adult Competencies (Encceja) and the National High School Examination for People Deprived of Liberty (Enem PPL), in addition to cultural activities such as film screenings.

The visit to Pará is part of the actions of the Fair Sentence Plan, a program launched on May 12 in partnership between the Judiciary and Executive Powers, which includes more than 300 goals aimed at improving the prison system throughout the country. The plan includes improvements in infrastructure, security, health, and education, focusing on professional training and social reintegration of people deprived of liberty (PPLs).

"The role of Senappen is fundamental in this process, as it provides consistent support and close monitoring from the national coordination. This will allow us to achieve the goals set by the Fair Sentence Plan for Pará," emphasized Secretary Marco Sirotheau.

During the visit, Rodrigo Dias highlighted that the state has stood out in recent years in offering prison education, with a significant increase in enrollments for Enem PPL, Encceja, and regular education, in addition to cultural and sports actions. He also announced that Senappen will open a public notice to expand educational assistance to PPLs, including the construction and renovation of classrooms, as well as the acquisition of equipment. The proposal is to ensure access to education even in remote units, through distance learning.

"The idea is to enhance the activities already underway in Pará, creating joint strategies to achieve the indicators of the Fair Sentence. The donation of TVs, notebooks, and the construction of suitable environments are concrete measures for this," explained Rodrigo.

The coordinator of Prison Education at Seap, Patrícia Sales, celebrated Senappen's support. "The partnership has been fundamental for the advancement of our educational indicators. This visit reinforces our commitment to the goals of axis 2 of the Fair Sentence, focused on education," she said.

Dialogue with the bases

On Thursday (22), Rodrigo Dias also met with education coordinators from the prison units of the Metropolitan Region of Belém, during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Penitentiary Administration School (EAP). The moment was dedicated to active listening of the servers and the debate on the challenges and goals of the Plan.

"The meeting was extremely productive. We spoke directly with the managers who work on the front lines of prison education and left confident that Pará is prepared to achieve the objectives of the Fair Sentence by 2027," said Rodrigo.

The reintegration technician at Seap, Sabrina Lima, considered the meeting essential for strengthening public policies in the prison system. "This dialogue consolidated the advances already achieved and showed that we are on the right track to maintain education as a powerful tool for reintegration," she stated.

The administrative assistant Eduardo Sozinho also approved the initiative. "The lecture with the national coordinator broadened our perspective and gave us more motivation to face the obstacles and promote a fairer and more humane reintegration," he added.
