State Department of Justice (Seju) promotes awareness action for 'Orange May'
Event reinforces the importance of identifying risks to children and adolescents and offering help

The State Department of Justice (Seju) held, this Tuesday (27), in Belém, an action in reference to Orange May, a campaign dedicated to combating the sexual abuse and exploitation of children and adolescents. The event, organized by the Coordination of Monitoring Violated Rights (CMDV) and Citizenship (CCID) of the department, aimed to raise awareness among staff and users about the importance of prevention against sexual violence in childhood and adolescence.

Francilene Lobato, a social worker at Seju, thanked the partnership with the ParáPaz Foundation at the event and reinforced the responsibility of each person in prevention. “We, public servants, have the mission to alert possible risks and welcome those who have already experienced this violence. But those who are not professionals also need to be attentive if a child or adolescent in their neighborhood, for example, needs help.”

Psychologist Ana Júlia Góes Moreira, from the ParáPaz Foundation, explained to the audience about the support network structured by the institution to welcome victims of violence. She also spoke about the definition and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and the possibility of victims presenting this condition months or even years after the trauma.
“When you have the impact of violence, it will have associations that will manifest later. You may have a trigger and relapse from a violence suffered in childhood, for example. The trauma will be treated, but it needs monitoring. That’s why it’s so important to have education and prevention, especially for children and adolescents,” says Ana Júlia.

Francine Oliveira, a student of the Social Work course at the Federal University of Pará, attended the event at Seju. “It is important to talk about this subject to the general public, like those who came here, especially to reach the person who did not have much awareness of the subject and now has more information,” she explains, highlighting the importance of public service in addressing the topic.
