The government of Pará has taken a strategic step to transform Santarém into an industrialization hub in Baixo Amazonas. The creation of the Industrial District in the municipality has the potential to generate up to 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, strengthen local production chains, and attract investments in sectors such as agribusiness, bioindustry, logistics, non-metallic mining, and civil construction.

The initiative is led by the Pará Economic Development Company (Codec), with the support of the Santarém City Hall and the Santarém Commercial and Business Association (Aces), and is part of the state’s economic development decentralization policy.

The implementation of the project was made possible by the expropriation of an area of 175 hectares, located between the BR-163 and PA-370 highways. The state decree authorizes the compensation for the land and was published in the State Official Gazette on May 19. A milestone for the execution of the next steps of the Industrial District project.

Industrial District with complete infrastructure
The Industrial District will have 125 business lots and complete infrastructure: 6.5 km of internal roads,
drainage system, sidewalks, bike lanes, landscaping, pedestrian crossings, and a quality electrical network. Areas to support businesses are also planned, creating a favorable environment for the growth of sustainable and competitive enterprises.

The management of the space will be the responsibility of Codec, which will coordinate the offering of lots based on technical and legal criteria, ensuring that investments generate lasting positive impacts on the local economy.

Codec reiterates that with a strategic location, easy access to highways and waterways, and an economically active population, Santarém has ideal conditions to host the new district. The municipality is the main economic hub of Baixo Amazonas, with an estimated GDP of R$ 6.3 billion, according to the Amazon Foundation for the Support of Studies and Research (Fapespa).

Initiative energizes production chains
The president of Codec, Lutfala Bitar, emphasizes that "the creation of the Santarém Industrial District is a fundamental milestone for the development of the region. This project will not only generate thousands of jobs but will also transform Santarém into a hub for attracting new investments, diversifying the local economy and strengthening production chains.”

The mayor of Santarém, José Maria Tapajós, also highlighted the importance of the initiative for the future of the region. “The release of state resources for the expropriation of the area represents a concrete advance towards the consolidation of the Industrial District. It is a transformative project that boosts job creation, enhances our production chains, and will attract new investments. It is the result of a joint effort between the State Government, the productive sector, parliamentarians, and the city hall, for the benefit of the population of western Pará,” he stated.

The project is the result of collaboration between various public and business institutions, such as the Secretariat of Economic Development, Mining and Energy (Sedeme), Codec, the Santarém City Hall, and Aces. The action reaffirms the commitment of the government of Pará to sustainable regional development and to generating opportunities in all regions of Pará.
