The Civil Police of Pará, through the Regional Superintendence of Baixo Tocantins and the Baião Police Station, launched, last Thursday (29), the operation "Baião em Pólvora", aimed at combating the illegal trade of ammunition. A man was caught in the act.

The action began after reports about the ease of obtaining weapons and ammunition in a commercial area of the municipality. During the investigations, the Civil Police managed to identify one of the suspicious addresses.

"The establishment began to be monitored, aiming to prevent any citizen or even criminals from acquiring weapons and ammunition illegally. At an opportune moment, the store owner was approached and revealed where the arsenal was stored," explained the regional superintendent, Mhoab Khayan.

In total, 281 caliber 20 cartridges; 1,435 caliber 22 ammunition; 232 caliber 38 ammunition; 11 caliber 32 ammunition; 100 cartridge primers; 184 packaging of gunpowder for hunting; one tube of special gunpowder, in addition to several loaded and unloaded cartridges of different calibers (36, 28, 12, 32, 16, 24, 9 mm) and 83 cans of primers with 100 units each were seized.

The owner of the business was caught in the act and taken to the Baião Police Station, where he remains at the disposal of the Judiciary. Investigations are ongoing with the aim of identifying and locating other potential individuals involved in this criminal practice in the region.
