On the upcoming Sunday, June 1st, at 8 PM, the Symphony Orchestra of Theatro da Paz (OSTP) will kick off the 37th edition of the International Music Festival of Pará (FIMUPA) with an opening concert on the stage of the historic Theatro da Paz in Belém. The performance is free of charge and marks the beginning of a series of activities aimed at promoting exchange among musicians from various parts of Brazil and the world.

Under the direction of guest conductor Barry M. Ford, the OSTP will present a repertoire featuring works from different styles and eras. Among the selected pieces are "Holst – Marching Song" and the "Concerto for Cello" by Britto, highlighting the participation of renowned cellist Antônio Del Claro.

The concert will also feature a special appearance by the guitar quartet Quaternaglia and pianist and soloist Ariel Lima, who will perform "Song of the Universal," a composition by Sérgio Molina inspired by the eponymous work of American poet Walt Whitman.

"It is a piece that brings together various aspects that I enjoy and that I hope will reach the audience: chamber music at the center, between the piano and the guitars, but accompanied by orchestration reminiscent of the 19th-century European tradition. All permeated by Brazilian rhythms," explains Ariel Lima.

For the pianist, participating in the festival also has personal significance.

"I grew up watching the various editions of FIMUPA, attending concerts and participating in master classes. It is great to now be on the other side, as a guest artist, teaching today’s students. Moreover, it is always a joy to take the stage with the OSTP," he emphasizes.
