Advancement in the paving of PA-477 boosts development in the Carajás region
The road is essential for the flow of agricultural and livestock production, in addition to ensuring better mobility conditions for residents and workers.

The paving works of the PA-477 highway, located in the Carajás Integration Region in southeastern Pará, have reached 83% completion, representing a significant advancement in regional infrastructure. The section currently under construction comprises 20 kilometers between Vila Nova, about 8 km from the junction with BR-153, and the village of Armazém Castro, located on the border between the municipalities of São Geraldo do Araguaia and Piçarra.
The paving of PA-477 is a historical demand from the local population and promises to transform the logistics and economy of the entire region. The road is essential for the flow of agricultural and livestock production, in addition to ensuring better mobility conditions for residents and workers who depend on the road daily.

The Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics of Pará, Adler Silveira, highlighted the importance of the work. “We are working tirelessly to improve infrastructure and promote development in all regions of the State. The paving of PA-477 is proof of our commitment to ensuring better living and working conditions for the people of Pará,” he stated.
In 2023, the State Government had already delivered a stretch of 13 kilometers of new asphalt, between the headquarters of the municipality of Piçarra and the village of Armazém Castro. With the new construction front towards BR-153, more than 40 kilometers of paving will be delivered to the population, directly benefiting the rural area of São Geraldo do Araguaia and strengthening integration between the municipalities in the region.

New reality – With the completion of the paving of PA-477, the reality of those living near the highway is changing. The city of Piçarra, which has approximately 13,000 inhabitants and was emancipated in 1988, has its economy based on agriculture and livestock. Its name comes from the gravelly soil — a type of gravel typical of the region, traditionally used in road construction. Now, asphalt begins to replace dust and mud, becoming the new symbol of progress and connectivity for all residents of the area.
Residents express optimism with the completion of the work. Truck driver José Almeida, who frequently uses the highway, celebrates the improvement. “With the new paved road, travel time will decrease and the risk of accidents will also go down. It will be a relief for those who depend on this route daily,” he emphasized.
Maria das Dores, a housewife living in the rural area, believes that the new road will make it easier for her to visit neighboring towns. “It will be much easier to visit my relatives in Xambioá and Marabá. Before it was a struggle with so much mud and potholes, now I’ll be able to go more often,” she stated.
The expectation is that the complete paving of PA-477 will be finished in the coming months, establishing itself as a milestone for the development of São Geraldo do Araguaia, Piçarra, and the entire southeastern region of Pará.
