Sespa holds the II State Symposium on Hospital Infection Control and Patient Safety
The initiative involved lectures, discussion panels, and workshops

With the aim of strengthening the safety culture in hospitals and other health services, the State Department of Public Health (Sespa) held the II State Symposium on Hospital Infection Control and Patient Safety on June 3, 4, and 5. The event took place in the auditorium of its headquarters in Belém, with the central theme "Improving the Quality of Notifications."
The initiative was organized by the Department of Sanitary Surveillance (Devs/Sespa), through the State Coordination of Prevention and Control of Healthcare-Associated Infections (Ceciras/PA), the State Patient Safety Center (Nesp), and the Coordination of Dialysis Services (Cesd), linked to the Division of Health Services and Health Interest Surveillance (Divsev).
The symposium brought together specialists, health professionals, and patients, promoting lectures, discussion panels, and workshops. The activities addressed topics such as patient safety, hospital infection control, best practices in dialysis services, and the incorporation of innovative technologies in care.
The representative of Anvisa, Cleide Ribeiro, highlighted the relevance of the event for strengthening notification and infection prevention policies. “This type of initiative is essential not only for Pará but for all of Brazil. Anvisa's presence here contributes to fostering a safety culture in health services, promoting the exchange of experiences and alignment with national guidelines. It is crucial to encourage continuous prevention and control actions to ensure patient safety,” she stated.

Thais Castro de Oliveira, head of the Sanitary Surveillance Services Division, emphasized the strategic role of the symposium for professionals directly involved in care. “It is an event aimed at professionals from Hospital Infection Control Committees (CCIH), Patient Safety Centers (NSP), and dialysis services. We seek to strengthen strategies that expand the safety culture and improve the quality of care provided. This meeting is another step towards excellence in health services in our state,” she pointed out.
Viviane Sena, state coordinator of Ceciras/PA, reminded that the surveillance of Healthcare-Associated Infections (Iras) is one of the pillars of patient safety. “The symposium represents an important advance in consolidating this work, promoting public health and reaffirming the commitment to quality care. Bringing together professionals from across the state creates a conducive environment for sharing experiences and strengthening care practices,” she stated.
For Aryel Profeta, coordinator of the State Patient Safety Center, the realization of the symposium is aligned with the strategic planning of Sanitary Surveillance. “More than promoting the exchange of experiences, our goal is to engage health professionals in adopting safer practices centered on the care of the patient and their family. Patient safety must be a constant priority in health services,” he concluded.
