The State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), through the Institute of Security Education of Pará (Iesp), started on this Monday (9) the Basic English Language Course for public security system servers, aimed at qualifying professionals who will work during the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30). This unprecedented initiative is part of the strategies of the Government of Pará to ensure qualified service, efficient communication, and the integrated action of security forces during one of the largest environmental events in the world.

With a workload of 60 hours, the course is offered in the Distance Education modality, under the tutorship and coordination of the Complementary Education Coordination of Iesp. The content covers the practical use of the English language in public security routines in international environments, expanding communication with participants from other countries and promoting greater agility and inclusion in the services provided.

About 800 servers from the Integrated Public Security and Social Defense System (Sieds) will be trained, divided into 15 classes, bringing together professionals from Segup, the Military, Civil, and Penal Police, the Military Fire Brigade, and Municipal Guards. According to the acting Secretary of Public Security, Colonel PM Ricardo Neves, the initiative is part of the strategic actions to qualify servers for COP30. “We continue to train our professionals so that all our actions can be operationalized with the best service to everyone who will participate in the events, whether they are Brazilian or foreign,” he states.

The director of Iesp, Colonel Walder Braga de Carvalho, emphasizes that the planning of English training aims to ensure broad support for the demands of the event, which will receive a large international audience. “The course promoted by Segup, through Iesp, aims to facilitate communication between agents and the foreign public that will participate in COP30, using the most spoken language in the world, which is English,” he pointed out.

The training will continue until October and reinforces the commitment of the Government of Pará to excellence in serving the international public, promoting efficient communication and the integrated action of security forces. For Segup server Márcio Santiago, the course is an opportunity for professional improvement. “This type of training is a great way to facilitate the study of a second language. Besides making it accessible, it is a fundamental stimulus for us who are working in public security and will have direct contact in providing services during COP30,” he evaluates.
