The Dr. Abelardo Santos Regional Hospital (HRAS), in Belém, has recorded significant advances in patient safety protocols. On the afternoon of this Thursday (12), the Public Hospitals Restructuring Project (RHP), part of the Institutional Development Support Program of the Unified Health System (Proadi-SUS), assessed that the clinical pharmacy at HRAS achieved 91.7% compliance in its care processes.

This result reflects the work developed by the clinical pharmacists of the unit, focused on the safe, effective, and rational administration of medications. The practice has generated important benefits, such as the reduction of medication errors, rational use of drugs, personalized patient monitoring, and improved treatment adherence.

The initiative, coordinated by the Ministry of Health, received technical support from the RHP/Proadi-SUS project of the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital, which monitored HRAS processes between January and June of this year. During this period, evaluations and proposals for improvements were made, almost all of which were implemented by the unit's team.

"This visit was an important moment for our hospital, as it provided a detailed diagnosis of our clinical pharmacy and helped us identify specific needs. We received the action plans and recommendations with attention and care, so that we can continuously improve the services provided to the people of Pará," highlighted the general director of HRAS, Ednise Amaral.

Advances and continuous training - According to clinical pharmacist Erick Paduano, new protocols have been implemented, as well as training and adjustments in workflows. "The patient load per clinical pharmacist was reduced by 50% with new hires. We also conducted training in clinical care, improvements in prescription evaluation, and strengthened communication, with daily meetings and active participation in visits and multiprofessional committees," he explained.

The coordinator of the sector, Jacirley Silva, emphasized that the recognition was the result of a collective effort. "It is a great pride to be recognized for quality standards among excellence hospitals. This was only possible with the union of several people and teams, committed to improving care for our users. This result motivates us to continue doing our best every day," she stated.

Strengthening the SUS - Proadi-SUS aims to strengthen the Unified Health System through partnerships between the Ministry of Health and philanthropic hospitals of excellence in Brazil. The collaboration promotes knowledge exchange, innovation, education, and management qualification, contributing to the SUS offering increasingly qualified and accessible health services to the population.

The supervisor of the Quality and Patient Safety Center (NQSP) at HRAS, Jocy Guimarães, expressed pride in participating in the project.
"Being selected in a process that involved dozens of hospitals from all over Brazil was a great source of pride for us. Today we conclude this six-month cycle more qualified, engaged, and certain that we are strengthening what is most important in this process: patient safety," she concluded.
