Committed to the humanization of care, the Regional Public Hospital of Marajó (HRPM), in Breves, in the southwest of Marajó Island, continues to promote actions that make the stay of users more welcoming and humanized. As part of this initiative, the administration of the unit facilitated the reunion between a patient hospitalized for over a month and his family. “It was very important to see my family back here with me,” highlighted Edilson Aleixo Fernandes, 39, after receiving a visit from his loved ones this Friday (13).

The patient reported that he had not seen his children for over 40 days, but with the support of the unit's psychologist, it was possible to arrange the reunion with the family. “I am very happy to finally be with my family. I can only thank God and the hospital team. The work here is very good, thank God. Everyone, from the cleaning staff to the coffee people, are very good people. Thank God, everyone treats me very well here at the hospital,” he emphasized.

Inaelma Moraes Fernandes, 39, Edilson's wife, also expressed the emotion experienced during the reunion. “I was very happy because it had been days since I had seen them. I missed my children a lot, really a lot. When I was told there was a possibility of bringing them, I was moved. I couldn't even sleep from so much anxiety for this moment. It was very good, I can only thank everyone. If I could, I would give a thousand points to HRPM,” she concluded.

Eduardo de Souza Fernandes, 13, also shared the emotion of reuniting with his father. “I felt a lot of joy in my heart when I saw my dad. Thank God, the hospital gave us this opportunity. There are many families that want to see their parents, but they can't always. I took advantage of this moment and was very happy to see my dad again,” said the student, who gifted his father with a Palmeiras jersey, his favorite team.

“Today it was possible to witness a deeply moving moment: the reunion of a hospitalized father with his wife and children, after four months of separation. This reunion highlights how essential emotional support is in the hospitalization process. Prolonged hospitalization imposes psychological challenges on the patient and their families, and it is in this context that hospital psychology proves to be indispensable,” pointed out Vinicius Vanzaler, psychologist at HRPM.

He adds that, “the presence of the psychologist helps to welcome and organize emotions, promote empathetic listening, reframe the experience of illness, and strengthen emotional bonds. Their work goes beyond technical interventions, favoring moments of reconnection and meaning. Shared experiences demonstrate that, even in the face of illness, it is possible to live moments of profound humanity and that psychology is essential for them to happen safely and meaningfully.”

The Regional Public Hospital of Marajó is a health unit of the State Government, managed by the National Institute of Social and Human Development (INDSH), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). The unit provides medium and high complexity assistance to the population of the southwest region of the Marajó archipelago and is located at Avenida Rio Branco, No. 1,266, in the center of Breves.
