Organizations accredited to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) can now express interest in setting up their pavilions and delegation offices in the Blue Zone of COP30, which will take place in November this year in Belém. The call for expressions of interest was opened this week, and requests can be made until July 2.

The Blue Zone is the official and restricted area of the Conference of the Parties (COP), where diplomatic negotiations take place, as well as various activities organized by participating countries and institutions. The pavilions are spaces dedicated to presenting projects, climate actions, sustainable solutions, as well as cultural and gastronomic exhibitions from the represented territories.

The coordinator of the COP30 Core of the State of Pará, Brenda Maradei, highlights the importance of this moment for strengthening diversity and the exchange of experiences during the event.

“The opening of the pavilions, the registration for access to the pavilion, is an important moment because the countries, the 196 parties that make up the United Nations, want to showcase their cultures, their actions against global warming, they want to show their foods. These pavilions contribute greatly to all this diversity, to cultural exchange. Each country, from different places and territories, in these pavilions, presents a little, promotes, shows a bit of everything, of all the richness and beauty of each territory, of each region. So, we have gastronomic presentations, cultural presentations, many business meetings within the pavilions, in addition to presentations of projects and solutions. It is truly an enriching process,” she emphasizes.

Brenda Maradei also reinforces that the Blue Zone area is highly sought after. “It is an area where participants really enjoy moving around. You see in the same space different environmental solutions, educational solutions, different actions being carried out all over the world. So, providing this opportunity is interesting, and having it in our capital, in the city of Belém, so that everyone can truly understand, live, and perceive what the Amazon is, is precious.”

Initially, the spaces for pavilions and offices in the Blue Zone are intended for a specific audience, made up of accredited observers, institutions recognized by the UNFCCC, and representatives of the signatory parties of the Convention. After analyzing the expressions of interest from this priority audience, the opening may be extended to other participants.
