Women are gaining more and more space in the engineering field in the state agencies of Pará
More than 30 female engineers are part of the Seop team, including civil and sanitary engineers, in the capital and in the interior of the State, including in leadership positions.

In Pará, encouraged by the State Government, women are gaining more and more space in the engineering sector in state agencies. The appreciation and recognition of professionals in public sectors, which were traditionally predominantly male, are strategies aimed at strengthening gender equity in the technical areas of civil construction, transportation, and infrastructure. This Monday (23), International Women in Engineering Day is celebrated.
More than 30 female engineers are part of the team at the State Department of Public Works (Seop), including civil and sanitary engineers, in the capital and in the interior of the State, including in leadership positions. The project manager for COP 30, Thaís Ribeiro, emphasizes that the challenge of leading large projects requires technical knowledge, management of multidisciplinary teams, and engagement of stakeholders interested in the project.
“Seop has real examples of female participation in the management of its projects; several engineers, technicians, architects, and social workers work directly and indirectly in the development of activities in projects throughout Pará, contributing to the growth of the State. Many of these projects have a high degree of complexity and social interest, such as the structural works for COP 30, macro-drainage works, urban sanitation works, a waterway terminal, and linear parks, in addition to hospitals, water supply works, among others,” highlights Thaís Ribeiro.
The works manager at the Department of Infrastructure (Seinfra), Alcilene Santos, points out the importance of having women in strategic positions, such as in project coordination. “This shows that women do have a central role in leading large projects. The department encourages the hiring of more female engineers, promoting equity and creating an environment where we can grow, lead, and leave our mark on the history of our State's infrastructure,” she assures.
Transformation – According to the Federal Council of Engineering and Agronomy (Confea), among professionals under 30, one in three is a woman, representing a renewal in the sector, which has a new generation of women taking on roles and driving new professionals.
