The Forest Chain Development Directorate (DDF) of the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity (Ideflor-Bio) has completed the setup of a new seedling nursery in the municipality of Colares, in the northeastern region of Pará. Measuring 12×18 meters, the nursery is located in the area where the local office of the state agency will be built, expanding the capacity to support reforestation and recovery projects in the region.

The structure has a production capacity of up to 15,000 seedlings of forest and fruit species, focusing on meeting the demands of Agroforestry Systems (SAFs) in the municipality. According to Ideflor-Bio, the facility is strategic for strengthening environmental recovery actions and income generation among local communities by encouraging the cultivation of native and economically valuable fruit species.

The nursery was built with a galvanized iron metal structure and features a shade cloth cover with 50% shading, ensuring the ideal protection for seedling development. Additionally, the sprinkler irrigation system will ensure a regular water supply, improving the management and quality of the produced plants.

Incentive - According to the manager of Production and Forest Productive Arrangements at Ideflor-Bio, Laura Dias, the nursery is an important step for the internalization of the institute's actions. “This space will expand our seedling production capacity in a strategic region. With this, we will be able to better serve family farmers, SAF projects, and other environmental recovery initiatives that are being planned for Colares,” she highlighted.

For the director of the DDF, Vicente Neto, the delivery of the nursery reinforces the commitment of the Government of Pará to sustainable development. “This structure is part of the policy to strengthen the forest chain in the state. We are bringing more infrastructure to the interior, ensuring that municipalities have the conditions to implement projects that combine agricultural production with environmental preservation,” he stated.

The Colares nursery will primarily be used to serve producers developing SAFs, a practice that integrates agricultural crops with forest species, promoting economic, social, and environmental benefits. Ideflor-Bio expects seedling production to begin in the coming months, after the definitive installation of the local office.
