Hand hygiene is the simplest and one of the most effective practices for controlling hospital infections. With the theme "It's in your hands, in sustainability alcohol is the champion", the Santa Casa do Pará Foundation, through the Hospital Infection Control Center, launched a campaign this Tuesday (24) aimed at encouraging this healthy habit, in the internal square of the hospital in Belém.

The event featured the participation of the Coral Saúde e Vida Maria Helena Franco and members of the Arraial do Pavulagem, who used music to engage staff and users of the health institution.

The campaign shows users and staff how to keep their hands clean

For user Lídia Teixeira, a resident of Igarapé-Açu, a municipality in the northeast of the state, who was accompanying her nephews in the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic, the campaign is interesting and creative. "It's a playful way of how we can raise awareness about hand hygiene. Keeping care of the environment, especially us, who have premature children to care for in the hospital and at home," said Lídia.

Rosemar Santos da Silva, a resident of Belém, who is being monitored at the Women's Outpatient Clinic, said that the action "makes us aware of the hygiene we need to practice, which we often do not give due importance. Here they teach us how we should do it, and also show, through this device, whether we are doing it correctly or not. Sometimes, we just put the product on our hands, rub it, but do not pay attention to the other parts of the hand. And that’s where the importance of doing hand hygiene correctly comes in."

Prevention - Nurse Adriana Moreira, from the Hospital Infection Control Center, emphasized that the "goal is to call the hospital community for the days when we will be distributed in the hospital, with dynamics and hand hygiene stations. Every year this campaign takes place exactly to reinforce the simplest and also the most important action for infection prevention, which is hand hygiene."

Adriana Moreira also highlighted the work of the team composed of infectious disease doctors, nurses, infection control specialists, biomedical technicians, and administrative staff. "In addition to the campaign we do once a year, there are also trainings requested by the departments. Thus, we are always reinforcing this measure, which is hand hygiene, fundamental for the prevention of infections, in addition to the treatment and recovery of patients' health," she added.

Dynamics and photographs - The Hospital Infection Control Center will hold programming on Wednesday and Thursday (25 and 26) with the motto "Gloves Sometimes, Always Clean Your Hands". There will be stations with dynamics about hand hygiene in the internal area of the hospital.

Alongside the event, the 3rd Photography Contest will take place, aiming to reinforce this year's motto. The two best photos will be awarded at the end of this month.
