Man arrested in Maranhão for rape and sexual harassment in Paragominas
The action was taken by the Specialized Police Station for Women's Assistance (Deam) in Paragominas, and the suspect is already at the disposal of the Justice
The Civil Police, through the Specialized Police Station for Women's Assistance (Deam) in Paragominas, arrested a man in the act on the night of this Tuesday (24) for the crimes of rape, attempted rape, and sexual harassment. The crime occurred in the city of Paragominas, and the suspect was found in Açailândia, a municipality in the State of Maranhão.
The police action began on Monday (23), when the Deam of Paragominas received dossiers from the Sectional, located in the city, with materials related to investigations of occurrences of sexual crimes allegedly committed between June 19 and 22 of this year.
Investigation
“According to the occurrences, the suspect posed as a rideshare driver and approached women in different locations in the city, with the aim of committing sexual violence. We managed to identify him, and after checking the database, we found that he also had a criminal record for domestic violence and sexual harassment,” explained Delegate Amanda Costa, head of the Deam of Paragominas.
Throughout the investigations, seven collected reports pointed to the suspect, who always acted in the same way during the criminal act. A task force was created, composed of teams from the Civil Police, with the participation of the Military Police and the Federal Highway Police (PRF), to locate the perpetrator of the crimes.
“He was found on a bus in the city of Açailândia, when he was on his way to the municipality of Imperatriz, in Maranhão. We made the approach on the night of this Tuesday, and he was arrested in the act for consummated rape, attempted rape, and sexual harassment,” concluded the delegate.
The arrested individual was taken to the police unit for the necessary procedures. He is already at the disposal of the Judiciary. The arrest of the suspect also had the support of the personnel from the Regional Superintendence of Capim, the Police Stations of Dom Eliseu, Ipixuna do Pará, and Mãe do Rio, in addition to the actions of the Investigation Support Nucleus (NAI) of the Paragominas Sectional and the Specialized Police Station for the Assistance of Children and Adolescents (Deaca) of Paragominas.
