The State Secretariat for Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) hosted, this Monday (30), the 9th ordinary meeting of the Eastern Amazon Fund Management Committee (CGFAO), the body responsible for deliberating on the application of the Fund's resources. The meeting was attended by representatives from the state government and the Third Sector, reaffirming the hybrid and participatory nature of the FAO governance.

During the meeting, the main results achieved until the first half of 2025 were presented, as well as ongoing initiatives and projections for new actions in the coming months. The head of Semas and vice-president of the Management Committee, Raul Protazio Romão, highlighted the strategic role of the Fund in building a low-carbon economy in the State.

“The Eastern Amazon Fund has been consolidating a model of participatory management and concrete results. We are talking about investments that are changing realities in quilombola territories, promoting environmental restoration and strengthening sustainable production chains. It is an essential instrument of our climate policy,” the secretary informed.

Balance - Among the results from 2024 and early 2025, the update of the State Plan Amazon Now (PEAA), the formulation of the State Seed Strategy, the georeferencing of three quilombola territories, the implementation of the Sustainable Territories Program in Marajó, and technical and financial support to 15 quilombola associations stand out. There was also the acquisition of a modular data center, the mobilization of government agencies in 13 ongoing initiatives, and actions to recover degraded areas with an increase in forest stocks.

This year, the Fund is already working on the development of a project proposal aimed at command and control, to be submitted to banks and other funders, continuing the State Nursery Strategy. It is enrolling 150 rural producers in the Sustainable Territory Marajó, in the municipality of Portel, enabling the disbursement of resources to quilombola associations and supporting the commercial requalification policy under the Sustainable Livestock Program of Pará, through the granting of vouchers to small producers.

Public calls - Among the actions are support for the creation of three new Conservation Units, the implementation of an FAO Project Office, new public calls for community projects, and the strengthening of the Payment for Environmental Services (PSA) Program in the Sub-program for Collective Territories, with a focus on the pilot in the protected areas block of Terra do Meio.

“We are advancing in strengthening fundamental instruments to recognize and value the role of traditional peoples in forest conservation. The PSA, support for sustainable livestock, and the consolidation of our REDD+ jurisdictional system are integrated pathways for a just transition,” Raul Protazio added.

Created by State Decree No. 346/2019, the Eastern Amazon Fund is private, with public governance and interest. Funbio (Brazilian Fund for Biodiversity) is the managing entity, a Public Interest Civil Society Organization (Oscip), a private legal entity of public interest. With this configuration, implementation occurs more swiftly and efficiently, with transparency, without compromising legal security in the delivery of products and services in favor of the State Plan Amazon Now, an initiative of the Government of Pará.
