With the aim of ensuring efficient communication with foreign visitors during the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30), the Military Police of Pará (PMPA) and the State University of Pará (UEPA) trained 452 military police officers at different levels of English proficiency. The graduation ceremony took place this Monday (30) at the auditorium of the General Command Headquarters in Belém, with the presence of civil and military authorities, family members, and representatives from UEPA.

During the event, Corporal Orquídea, the class speaker, delivered a thank-you speech in English, which was simultaneously translated for the audience. Following that, a practical simulation of a police occurrence was presented, involving assistance to a foreign tourist who was a victim of theft. In the skit, led by 3rd Sergeant Weber, the interaction with the requester was entirely conducted in English, demonstrating the effectiveness of the training.

“This course is extremely important as it strengthens our knowledge and expands our possibilities for action. It is gratifying to receive free training, especially with certification from a renowned university like UEPA. With this training, we are confident that we can provide an even more qualified service during COP30,” stated PM Corporal Jorge Dias.

The rector of UEPA, Clay Chagas, emphasized the importance of the training. “This training is necessary and ongoing. Surely, those who attended the course understood the importance of this moment. I congratulate each of you who had the perseverance to start and complete this journey.”

Partnership between PMPA and UEPA
Unprecedented, the course is the result of a partnership between PMPA and UEPA, which collaborated in developing the methodology and in the pedagogical monitoring of the military personnel. This action is part of the strategic public safety plan for COP30, which is expected to gather thousands of participants from various countries in Belém in November.

The training began in April 2024 and totaled 192 class hours. The graduates received a nationally recognized certificate, issued and signed by the university, which is a reference in academic and professional training in the state of Pará.

For the general commander of PMPA, Colonel Dilson Júnior, the initiative also leaves a legacy beyond the event. “From now on, Belém enters the world map regarding tourism. We need to be prepared to welcome visitors well, so they take the best impression of our culture, our city, and our state. This fosters employment and income for the population,” he emphasized.
