The Santa Casa Foundation registers a growth in care for pregnant women in the first six months of 2025. Between January and June of this year, the Emergency and Obstetric Emergency area of Santa Casa performed 18,908 services, with a monthly average of 3,151 women assisted. In the same period, 4,956 births were recorded, including normal and cesarean deliveries.

Ezilene Souza, a nurse in the Obstetric Emergency (UEO), emphasizes the providential work of Santa Casa. "Santa Casa is a reference for the population. Here, we receive the patient, provide care, and often, they come for just a need for guidance."

The Santa Casa of Pará seeks to reinforce its commitment to humanized care and the well-being of patients and their families. Currently, the unit has 344 maternal-infant beds and performs an average of about 826 births per month, establishing itself as a reference for pregnant women and postpartum mothers in Pará.

The current structure of the maternity ward consists of 164 ward beds, 60 Neonatal ICU beds, 60 Conventional Intermediate Neonatal Care Unit (Ucinca) beds, 20 Ucinca-Kangaroo beds, 20 Adult ICU beds, in addition to 10 observation beds in obstetric emergencies and 10 in the Maternity House.

Assistant Director of the Santa Casa Foundation, Norma Assunção, highlights the increasing number of high-risk pregnancies

The assistant director of the Santa Casa Foundation, Norma Assunção, highlights the institution as one of the largest maternity hospitals in the country, with the main function of meeting the demand for high-risk pregnancy patients. "This is our primary purpose; of course, we attend to other situations, but patients with high-risk pregnancies are directed to this institution. And what we have observed over the years is a growing increase in these patients."

Support - Imaging exams such as X-rays, CT scans, Ultrasound, Endoscopy, Mammography, MRI, and Ultrasound Biopsies reinforce the care of the Santa Casa Foundation both in the hospital admission area and in the outpatient clinic.

In the first half of 2025, 57,220 exams were performed. A monthly average of 9,620 exams that support the care of users who seek Santa Casa on a daily basis.

Milton Miranda, coordinator of the imaging diagnosis and endoscopy area (CDIE), observes the importance of the service. "The high demand met reveals not only the operational capacity installed in our institution but also our commitment to providing quality public health on a large scale, encompassing the use of technologies, qualified staff, and rapid diagnostic responses."

"The wide range of diagnostic modalities offered internally at Santa Casa, as well as from our outpatient clinics and agreements with other institutions, helps to avoid unnecessary patient transfers, reducing indirect costs to the system and speeding up the care flow. Thus, the universe of exams performed translates into high resolution, being fundamental to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and continuity of care provided by SUS in the state of Pará," says Milton Miranda.
