Registrations are open until next Sunday (6) for the Collection Preservation Workshop, promoted by the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP) in Belém. The classes are free and will take place from July 7 to 18 at the Arthur Vianna Public Library, the headquarters of the Foundation.

Divided into two groups, the participants will work in the morning with editions of the newspaper O Liberal published in 2008. In the afternoon, editions of the newspaper A Província do Pará published in 1991 will be used. Those interested in participating in the course must fill out the electronic form.

The workshop will use newspapers from 1991 and 2008

The workshop includes stages of restoration, cleaning, and packaging of the newspapers, aiming at the preservation and conservation of these collections. The initiative provides participants access to 20th-century newspapers during the activities, involving practices that can be used for both books and periodicals.

According to the FCP's Technical Processes Coordinator, Simone Matos, the preservation workshop focused on newspapers is an opportunity for participants to improve and train in conservation, cleaning, and packaging practices for materials.

Reference - The Arthur Vianna Public Library is a reference in the conservation of works. Located in the Centur building, headquarters of the Cultural Foundation of Pará, the Library has Hemeroteca and Rare Works sections, which physically and digitally store newspapers, Official Gazettes of Pará, periodicals, and research articles, with a vast collection in both sections.

In the Hemeroteca (which preserves collections of periodicals), the oldest copies are from the first newspaper that circulated in Belém, "O Paraense," dated 1822.
