Government of Pará invests in facial recognition technology for fan access at Mangueirão
The state invests in the acquisition of 106 Facial Recognition readers for installation at the stadium access turnstiles. The new technology is in the implementation process.

The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Seel), reaffirms its commitment to innovation and fan safety by investing in the acquisition of 106 Facial Recognition readers for installation at the access turnstiles of the Olympic Stadium of Pará Journalist Edgar Proença, Mangueirão. The new technology is in the implementation process. As pointed out by the General Sports Law (Law No. 14.597/2023), for the control and supervision of public access to Sports Arenas with a capacity of over 20,000 people.
The system will feature facial monitoring means at the turnstiles, biometric identification of spectators, as well as a technical information center with sufficient infrastructure to enable image monitoring of the present audience and the biometric registration of spectators, in the law that came into effect in 2023.
The secretary of Seel, Cássio Andrade, emphasizes that facial recognition is important for safety and to facilitate the entry of fans. "The implementation of facial recognition at the New Mangueirão represents a significant advancement in safety and in the experience of fans attending games at the stadium. We, from the Government of Pará, through Seel, are always looking to ensure comfort and safety. Facial recognition will bring many benefits to all of us," said the secretary.
This new technology greatly improves safety and efficiency in accessing the stadium. The Facial Recognition device from the company Imply uses advanced technology to analyze and confirm many unique points of each person's face, ensuring high accuracy in less than 3 seconds. This time includes everything from detecting presence to granting entry, providing a quick and easy flow for people.
In addition to improving the experience for fans, biometric facial recognition reinforces security, making personal access non-transferable, as well as making it difficult for scalpers to operate. The system will be integrated with clubs, allowing registered fans to purchase tickets or unregistered fans to register through the club's ticketing platform (once integrated), or through the Government of Pará portal, via Seel, their facial biometrics online. Thus, access to the stadium occurs without the need for physical tickets or cards, with the fan's face being their own credential.
"It is important to emphasize that this mitigates the possibilities of fraud, scalping, fake tickets, and a series of inconveniences that are still part of the universe of access to Brazilian sports arenas. It is a great pride for us, who make Mangueirão under Secretary Cássio, and this investment from the state governor, Helder Barbalho, to equip our main sports venue with this equipment, which is a requirement of the General Sports Law, but which meets a need of the Pará fan, who is passionate about football, passionate about sports events. Later, we will also talk to the companies that hold shows here at the stadium, considering that Mangueirão is a multi-use arena that hosts many shows, so they can also integrate into this modernity. It is important to emphasize: the archive will interact with the public security system, also enabling us to identify individuals attempting to access the stadium fraudulently or who are involved in criminal events," said the security manager of Estádio Mangueirão, Colonel Cláudio Santos.
What changes with the new facial recognition technology?
Access to the stadium will be facilitated by facial recognition technology. Forget paper tickets, cards, or passwords. Facial biometrics will make fans' lives easier.
How does it work? - The recognition process is easy to understand and occurs in two simple steps:
Facial biometrics registration via mobile phone: it is quick and simple. You can register on any mobile phone with a front camera and it takes just a few seconds.
Immediate recognition: the identification of the fan occurs in a matter of seconds, ensuring agile and secure access.
What changes in the fan's life? - The impact of the General Sports Law on the daily life of fans will be significant, bringing changes in both security and convenience when attending stadiums.
Agility and comfort in access: 40% of accesses during matches occur 30 minutes before a game. With facial recognition, the entry process becomes much faster. For the fan, this means less time in lines and more time enjoying the game experience.
Instead of presenting printed tickets, documents, and going through lengthy checks, the system automatically recognizes the fan's face in just a few seconds, ensuring almost instant access to the stadium. "Fans can enter the stadium in up to two seconds. This technology further modernizes our Mangueirão," said Secretary Cássio Andrade.
Enhanced security: the new law was created to respond to the increasing concerns about safety at major sporting events. Facial recognition technology enables the identification of individuals with legal issues or processed by the Justice. With this, the fan can feel more protected inside the stadium, with a lower risk of violent episodes or illegal practices.
Combating scalping and counterfeiting: another important impact for the fan is the reduction of scalping and the sale of counterfeit tickets. Facial recognition allows for specific control of who actually owns the tickets, as access will only be authorized with facial identification. This means more transparency and less loss for the fan, who can trust that their ticket guarantees safe and exclusive entry.
Improvement of the overall event experience: The implementation of this technology makes the stadium safer, more organized, and with fewer lines, providing a more pleasant experience for the audience. Sporting events, which can often be a source of tension, become experienced in a more relaxed manner, with total focus on the game and fun.
To use the system, the fan will need to pre-register their facial biometrics on the Government of Pará and Seel website, through the link that will be made available soon. On game day, it will only be necessary to position the face in front of the identification equipment at the turnstile for entry release, without the need to present a ticket. The process is quick, intuitive, and mandatory for everyone.
Mangueirão more connected and secure: With facial recognition, Mangueirão enters a new phase in the management of sporting events, combining technology and entertainment to offer fans an innovative experience.
