Civil Police of Pará arrests man investigated for bank fraud in Maranhão
More than 100 million reais were moved by the suspect, amounts were from accounts of an agency in Belém
The Division of Investigations and Special Operations (DIOE) of the Civil Police of Pará executed, on Friday (04), an arrest warrant against a man investigated for bank fraud. The suspect's arrest took place in the municipality of Santa Inês, Maranhão, through the Specialized Police Station for the Investigation of Fraud and Other Frauds (DEOF), with the support of the local police.
According to the investigations, the crime occurred through electronic fraud involving the credentials of two managers of a bank agency in Santa Inês (MA). “The credentials were used to carry out multiple transfers, totaling the amount of R$ 106 million on July 1st of this year,” informed delegate Ricardo Rosário, director of DIOE.
The amounts would be from customer accounts of an agency in Belém. The transfers were only interrupted after the credentials of the employees were revoked, due to a fraud alert system.
“Aware of the alert, the responsible sector of the bank contacted other financial institutions to take measures regarding the recovery of the amounts. One of the institutions, from Minas Gerais, reported having received a withdrawal provision in the amount of R$ 2,200,000.00 (two million two hundred thousand reais), at an agency in Belo Horizonte,” added the director.
With the execution of the judicial warrant issued against the suspect by the 1st Police Inquiry Court of Belém, the investigated individual will remain at the disposal of the judiciary and will respond for qualified theft and criminal association. Ongoing efforts continue to identify other suspects involved in the crime.
