River Bases seize more than 2 tons of drugs and register a thousand approaches in Pará
The numbers from the inspection of the Integrated Bases linked to Public Safety and Social Defense (Segup) refer to the first half of this year
The assertive public safety strategy through the Integrated River Bases, linked to the Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense (Segup), continues to ensure significant results in the actions developed in the river network of Pará.
In the first half of 2025, the actions accounted for 1,129 approaches to vessels, 2 tons of drugs seized, and 26 arrests in flagrant, through inspections carried out daily by teams from the "Antônio Lemos" and "Candiru" Bases, installed in the regions of Marajó and Baixo Amazonas.
The Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, commented on the results. "We closed the first half of the operation of the Integrated River Bases in Pará, the 'Candiru' Base in Óbidos; the 'Antônio Lemos' base in Marajó, with fantastic results, having seized two tons of drugs, more than two tons of illegally transported fish," he said.
"In addition, we seized 11 firearms, had 52 arrests during this period, with 26 by arrest warrant and 26 for arrests in flagrant offense. Furthermore, other inspection actions in the customs area with the help of the Secretary of Finance, along with Adepará as well, among other actions, so that we can increasingly be present in the Rivers of Pará reducing crime and ensuring the safety of those who live in the riverside areas and those who use the river network," Ualame stated.
Results in the 1st half
From January to June 2025, the 'Antônio Lemos' River Base, installed on the right bank of the Tajapuru River, in Breves in the Marajó archipelago; and the 'Candiru' River Base, in the strait of the Amazon River, in Óbidos, in Baixo Amazonas, seized 2,000.43 kg of drugs, 2,000 kg of fish, and 839.81m³ of wood.
In the same period, there were 26 arrests in flagrant and 26 judicial warrants executed, in addition to the seizure of 11 firearms, 27 ammunition, and 28 cell phones. There was also the seizure of 25 vehicles. A total of 1,129 approaches to vessels were also carried out.
More investments
To expand, strengthen, and complete the strategy of the River Bases, the Government of Pará, through Segup, will deliver, in the second half of 2025, the third River Base named "Baixo Tocantins". It will be installed at the Furo do Capim, rural area of the municipality of Abaetetuba, near Barcarena, covering strategic river ports in Pará in the fight against crime.
"We will expand the operation of the river bases with the inauguration of the third Integrated River Base, which will be located near the Furo do Capim, at the limits of the municipalities of Abaetetuba and Barcarena, so that we can complete this river strategy and thus ensure even more the safety of our rivers and the people of Pará," concluded the head of Segup.
With the greater objective of ensuring the presence of the Government of Pará in strategic areas, to guarantee greater security to the populations of the riverside regions, with continuous inspections, the River Bases fulfill important missions, as part of the State's Public Safety System, in the vast river network of Pará.
