The Public Transport Regulation and Control Agency (Artran) is intensively working to curb irregularities in intermunicipal road transport in Pará. Between July 1 and 10, 222 approaches were made in 13 municipalities, resulting in 132 infraction notices for various irregularities. During this period, there were no seizures, which, according to the Agency, indicates that the presence of inspection teams deters clandestine transport, while also showing the need for continuous adjustments by authorized companies.

To avoid irregularities, inspectors mainly checked at terminals:

- Monitoring the departure times of companies;
- Issuance of free tickets at the counters, and
- The buses, with an emphasis on safety items (valid inspection, tires, and windshields).

“This reinforced action seeks to keep the sector regulated and, above all, ensure the safety of travelers. The number of approaches shows our effort to inspect every corner of the State, especially on routes with high passenger traffic,” informs José Cruz, coordinator of Road Transport at Artran.

The most recent inspections took place at strategic points. Abaetetuba, a municipality in the Tocantins Integration Region, led the number of approaches, with 54 vehicles inspected and 34 infractions recorded, followed by Benevides, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, with 39 approaches and 24 infraction notices, and Santo Antônio do Tauá, in the Northeast, where there were 24 approaches and 15 notices. In Ananindeua, also in the RMB, there were 27 approaches and 17 infractions, and in Belém, 21 vehicles were inspected and 13 fined.

Data by municipality, from July 1 to 10:
• Abaetetuba: 54 approaches / 34 infraction notices;
• Ananindeua: 27 approaches / 17 notices;
• Altamira: five approaches / one notice;
• Barcarena: 15 approaches / nine notices/
• Belém: 21 approaches / 13 notices;
• Benevides: 39 approaches / 24 notices;
• Castanhal: six approaches / two notices;
• Capanema: four approaches / two notices;
• Santa Maria do Pará: seven approaches / four notices;
• Santo Antônio do Tauá: 24 approaches / 15 notices;
• Santarém: seven approaches / four notices;
• Tailândia: eight approaches / five notices, and
• Parauapebas: five approaches / two notices.

Results from the second half of June - In the previous stage of the operation, carried out in the second half of June, eight clandestine vehicles were seized, while 14 regularized vehicles were notified for documentation irregularities. The actions focused on several municipalities, such as Xinguara, Canaã dos Carajás, Parauapebas, Marabá, and Tucuruí, targeting transport that operates without authorization or under conditions that put passengers at risk.

“We found everything from clandestine vehicles to regular operators with 'bald' tires or expired documents. In these situations, the risk to the passenger is high, and the law is clear: if there is a threat to safety, the vehicle is seized,” says José Cruz.
