Focusing on awareness and accident prevention, the State Traffic Department (Detran) has intensified traffic education actions in the municipality of Bragança, in northeastern Pará. Last weekend, the actions concentrated in the village of Ajuruteua, one of the most visited seaside resorts by locals at this time of year. The activities are part of the Summer Operation 2025 and will continue until the official end of the season.

The Detran Traffic Education team is positioned at strategic points, conducting educational approaches with drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians. The actions take place in high-traffic areas, such as the city entrance, access roads to the beaches, markets, and especially along the Ajuruteua waterfront.

In the village of Ajuruteua, where the number of visitors significantly increases on weekends, the activity addressed drivers with guidelines on safe driving, seatbelt use, respect for speed limits, and the importance of not driving under the influence of alcohol, especially when returning from the beaches.

In addition to distributing informational material and verbal guidance, the actions also include activities aimed at children. On the Ajuruteua waterfront, children participate in educational games, themed hopscotch, board games, face painting, and coloring activities with themes related to traffic and citizenship.

Maitê Sena, 8 years old, was one of the participants and showed enthusiasm for the program. “I learned that we have to cross at the crosswalk and look both ways. And I also painted a traffic light!” she proudly said, displaying the drawing she had just colored.

The actions also involve direct approaches to drivers, focusing on preventing risky behaviors, especially when returning from the beaches. Traffic education agent Rodrigo Freitas emphasizes that situations requiring guidance are still common.

“We have noticed that many people forget to wear seatbelts, transport children without the proper car seat, and among motorcyclists, the incorrect use of helmets is frequent,” he explained.

“We show how to wear the helmet correctly, fastening the chin strap, lowering the visor, and only releasing the driver after they comply. It’s a practical way to ensure that the message is absorbed.”

Rodrigo also highlighted a positive behavior frequently observed: “On the way back from the beach, usually, those who take the wheel are the people who haven’t drunk, often the women in the family. This is very positive,” he emphasizes. According to him, another point of attention is the access road to the village. “It’s a stretch with many bumps, without a shoulder. We always reinforce: don’t force overtaking and maintain a speed compatible with the road,” warns the agent.

Commercial manager, Fábio Conde: "I think this type of awareness that Detran is doing here is important"

Local resident, commercial manager Fábio Conde enjoyed the sunny day in Ajuruteua with his family and emphasized the importance of responsible actions. “Ajuruteua is already our backyard. We are from the land and love this place,” he stated. Although he had consumed alcohol, he mentioned that the family has already adopted a safe practice. “There’s always someone who doesn’t drink to take the wheel. In our case, it’s my partner. She drives responsibly and takes with us what we hold most precious, our children. It has become a tradition among us. I think this type of awareness that Detran is doing here is very important. Everyone benefits from safer traffic.”

Military personnel Erailton Moreira de Araújo, who was enjoying the weekend with his family in the village of Bacuriteua, also praised the action. “The beach is excellent, the weather is favorable, the service is good, and traffic is flowing within the rules. This guidance work on the way home is very valuable. Sometimes people drink, are tired, and still want to drive. So, this type of prevention is very important. We are happy with the initiative because when traffic is more educated and guided, everyone wins,” he highlighted.

The educational actions continue in Bragança and Ajuruteua until the end of the Summer Operation 2025, with the commitment to continue promoting a culture of responsibility, safety, and valuing life on the roads and beaches of Pará.
